Watchguard Support

I see that there is a some type of discovery entries for the "firebox" however there is no firebox include file. I have two Watchguard Firebox XTM810 devices that I would like to monitor. Am I missing something, or is there a reason they are not present? Thanks, John

custom graph questions, almost done

So I am not sure if this belongs on the dev list as I am not really doing core dev work and I am not currently subscribed to it. I will definitely contribute my work back to you guys though (if you wanted it). Its for graphing md3000i performance data (stupid thing isnt accessible through snmp, so its basically data attached to the management host). Anyway, I have been following the following example: http://www.observium.org/wiki/Developing/NewGraph and I am not sure about few things. 1) What are the following values for? Specifically the Pages/pages part. I understand that it cycles through the stats that i have setup, but I am not sure about the words Pages/pages. foreach ($stats as $stat) { $i++; $rrd_list[$i]['filename'] = $rrd_filename; $rrd_list[$i]['descr'] = "Pages " . ucfirst($stat); $rrd_list[$i]['ds'] = "pages" . ucfirst($stat); } 2) Now that I have the agent script created and the rest of the scripts in the tutorial, how am I supposed to activate it for a host? I am assuming it should probably be "activated" within the applications list? If so, I am guessing there is logic missing in that example tutorial on how to add it to the list of application options? 3) Is creating a diff and reapplying after every upgrade really the recommended method? Its to bad all the definitions are in a single file or else that might be a little easier to manage. 4) Any idea what type of logic i should be using to figuring out the proper numbers for the rrd graph settigns in this code section? rrdtool_create($rrd_filename, "--step 300 \ DS:pagesShared:GAUGE:600:0:125000000000 \ DS:pagesSharing:GAUGE:600:0:125000000000 \ DS:pagesUnshared:GAUGE:600:0:125000000000 ".$config['rrd_rra']); 5) What format should the agent script output be in? This check takes about 5 seconds and is probably a resource hog on the management host since the script has to run a stupid java cli app. The management server in this case is the same host as the observium system, so I wouldnt have a problem not using the agent and just doing a cron if that was somehow an option. unix-agent scripts conflicting with check_mk

I cant seem to use any of the unix-agent scripts with check_mk as it ruins all the check_mk local script results. Basically any existing scripts start giving an error in the check_mk gui and state "Check output not found in local checks". If I reinventory the host, none of the scripts show up at all. As soon as i remove the observium local agent scripts from the check_mk local folder and I reinvetory the host, everything is fine again. I am unfortunately not sure what our options are though. The only thing I can think of is to somehow serialize the data so that it shows up on one line for each script, then is parsed back out by observium once it receives it. That way we easily ignore them within our main.mk files. Can't really do that now because of how there are so many lines for each result (apache/mysql for example). Thoughts? Im quite surprised this hasn't already been an issue. I am running check_mk 1.2.0p3 and observium 0.12.9.3385. - MACscr

Links not working

Hello, I just installed Observium from SVN on Ubuntu Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS. I fallowed the Ubuntu installation guide. Observium comes up but when I log in. But when I click any of the links at the top they say "Not found" and give a invalid URL. For example when I click Devices> Add Devices it sends me to server.com/addhost/ which doesn't exist, because in the addhost directory is in a subdirectory called "pages." Did I miss something during the install? I have tried it a couple times, and reinstalled the server. Thanks! --Will

Services are deprecated. The code is still there because it would take time to remove. Do not use it. We have plans to implement better alerting in the future, but there is always a shortage of time. And look at them through http://postman.memetic.org/pipermail/observium/2012-September/thread.html How do I reply to this thread - but do not start a new topic every time? I have long lost touch (and forgotten) how to use mailing lists - last it was 10 years ago. 2) For monitoring unix servers use snmp? I do not understand a bit - but then why in wiki talk about the unix- agent. I saw that to unix-agent in any way no related to snmp. The maths and specs suggest a modern SSD should survive observium workload for quite a while, but I'm still worried about the random failure rate and the likelyhood that individual cells get worn out. In general SSDs are such a strange tech, there's almost no way to really improve them except with fancy controller hacks, the flash itself is a dead end tech. I would recommend dumping the data to a real disk occasionally, as observium/rrd-style workloads are pretty hard on flash-based storage. I have SSDs in my workstations, but I'm not sure if I'd trust them in a server quite yet. Please report back if/when it breaks :-) Adam. Hi, I recently discovered the following : When trying to set "Ignore" status on switches with large number of ports (eg. force10 e1200 or c300 chassis), the setting doesn't get saved for some of the ports. More specific, at the end of the list. This is what I did : Toggle all -> removed the toggle from the mgmt interface -> then save What happens: Most ports get "ignored" status, part of them don't After getting the status, they again have a 'not-ignored-status' (checkbox not checked). If I check them again & press save -> same issue. Seems like the checkboxes only get processed to a certain number of items ? Does this sound familiar ? Accurate Graphs in Billing are probably not so accurate

Hi I've noticed two things in the "Accurate" graphs in the Billing part: 1. Are Interface counter overflows or equipment reboot) probably not catched? - I see very high spikes (200 Gbps and more) on a 1G interface sometimes in sometimes out, but not at the same time. the quick graphs are ok 2. If I monitore more tha one interface for billing (Unfotunately one of the is down) the accurate graps are at leaset 1000 times to high... Atached some graphs... I runn lates svn (0.12.9.3378). Eaton Powerware UPS

Hi all, First time poster here. We use observium here at our office and think it is a great program. We were interested in having observium read SNMP information from our Powerware 9130 UPS's. Currently observium can't identify them. We were wondering if there was any interest in the community to write a snmp module to read from the Powerwares. The documentation for the SNMP values is posted in the PDF files which I can provide. If there is positive interest for anyone on helping take this on I can also provide SNMP walks of my Eatons. Doing some more digging here, it appears UCD-SNMP-MIB values for ssCpuUser (system & idle) are being populated correctly from checkpoint utm/splat deployments. But other items like interrupts, etc are working. The cpu values appear to be stored in the checkpoint enterprise mib: -- CHECKPOINT-MIB::multiProcIndex.1.0 = INTEGER: 1 CHECKPOINT-MIB::multiProcIndex.2.0 = INTEGER: 2 CHECKPOINT-MIB::multiProcUserTime.1.0 = INTEGER: 0 CHECKPOINT-MIB::multiProcUserTime.2.0 = INTEGER: 1 CHECKPOINT-MIB::multiProcSystemTime.1.0 = INTEGER: 100 CHECKPOINT-MIB::multiProcSystemTime.2.0 = INTEGER: 2 CHECKPOINT-MIB::multiProcIdleTime.1.0 = INTEGER: 0 CHECKPOINT-MIB::multiProcIdleTime.2.0 = INTEGER: 97 CHECKPOINT-MIB::multiProcUsage.1.0 = INTEGER: 100 CHECKPOINT-MIB::multiProcUsage.2.0 = INTEGER: 3 -- Found the current version of the mib as well as a checkpoint 32x32 graphic that can be added to the project (attached) in case someone has more time to play with it than I do. Also it appears that the vendor has an issue with the netsnmp package supplied with the default media 5.0.9) but they do have an update package (5.3.1). This at least provides for cpu enumeration but still no stats (per above).

This is probably because the device frequently returns invalid data. A common problem with tacked systems like the 3750 and VSS. Adam. Strange graph

Hi, Graphs for my stack was not correct. I have 4 swtich in stack. And observium return values very strange. 500Go by interface.... :/ Cisco IOS Software, C3750 Software (C3750-IPBASEK9-M), Version 15.0(2)SE, I have the last svn update on centos 6.2 I test to delete the host, delete rrd directory, and add my host. No more graphs after upgrade

Hello, I have a problem I had revision 3049, due to a small problem displaying the heath status of the drives I updated to HEAD and immediatly run ./discovery.php -h new. All functionality seems to be there but I have no new graphs, any ideas on how to troubleshoot/fix this problem? Thank you. Max Leon
