Mailer configuration

Hello all, I have tried repeatedly configuring the mailer agent with limited success. The PHP “email” fails to send via hosts as the from address is not working, it ends up sending as root(a)observium.cstreet.local even if I set the from address. When I set it to use postfix/sendmail from localhost I can get emails to send, and the from address is correct, but then it uses an old hostname “devnew65” as the dns name, which gets it rejected. I have been able to get a couple through our local mail server but the outside gets rejected. I have tried using authentication and it just doesn’t work and is rejected before authentication even takes place due to it’s source ip / dns. Any advice? The debug doesn’t show the actual mailing process or the php command or I would just write a quick php script to test it. Alert transports do not work any more

Hey Guys, I had a fully functional Observium Enterprise installation up to last week, but no alerts are sent out any more today. The alerts log says my alert has been sent out, but this is not the case. If I check the postfix queue, the email related to that alert is stuck in the queue, as it's trying to send the message to who@where, which is obviously not correct. The contacts are still fine though, 4 in total. Our Telegram group also did not receive any message, which has nothing to do with email. I believe something broke in the transport system. Could anyone help to understand what is going on? It definitely did work before. Thanks in advance for your help. Regards, Marco

Alert checkers triggering on down/0 speed interfaces

Since updating to 10134 we've seen some odd behavior out of our high interface utilization alerts. The alert itself is very simple, device matches *, entity is ifType equals ethernetCsmacd, and the test conditions are any of: ifInOctets_perc ge 80 ifOutOctets_perc ge 80 Which has worked fine forever. Now it's throwing alarms on an odd mix of devices (UBNT, Palo Alto, Arista, Kemp VLM, Infoblox) for ports that are down/down loopbacks or HA interfaces not connected. All of the ports it is alarming on show this in the data (Speed 0, and down/down): ifSpeed=>0 ifHighSpeed=>0 ifOperStatus=>down ifAdminStatus=>down Any idea what changed or why it's alarming on these now? I'm guessing its trying to do the 80% math on....0 but I'd imagine that shouldn't even run if the port is admin+operationally down. False Positive Alert if sensor_value is "NULL" / "FALSE"

Hey all, is there any way to check with an alert condition if the return value for i.e. is "NULL" and/or "FALSE"? I have the case that we removed SFP+ transceivers from Extreme devices and the device is now not replying with any value for this OID check. The SQL database contains "0.00000" for the affected sensor. Too many ports on a windows workstation

Hi everybody, I searched the docs for some hints about my problem but I didn't find anything. I'm very new to observium. I installed it in a docker container on a linux nas and I'm very happy with it. The main concern is that on a windows workstation (a nuc box) I have a LOT of interfaces listed: a lot of ethernet, a lot of tunnel interfaces. The other machines I monitor which are linux (computer or raspberry) don't show the same behaviour. Can you please point me in the right direction? Thanks and have a nice day, Gianpaolo

Fix for random logout

Hi, I spent some time figuring out why I got randomly logged out from the webpage and submitted a patch to https://jira.observium.org/browse/OBS-3132 Basically it was the session_regenerate_id() call that caused it, so I adopted the https://www.php.net/manual/en/function.session-regenerate-id.php suggested way. Well it works for me, try it out if you have the same issue. /niklas

Failure in notification of syslog alerts of the Ob server itself

Hello, Observium is setup to email syslog alerts and it is doing so without any issues of all devices. I have a requirement to email some log alerts of the Observium server to the network team. I did the usual stuff of adding syslog rule and associating with a contact address. The logs (/var/log/messages) are matched by this syslog rule. I can see those matched lines in the Ob GUI. Yet strangely, an email is never triggered. Initially I thought it could be due to the log message and so I tried matching some other log lines, but always the log messages are matched by the syslog rule but email is never triggered. The contact address gets emails of all other alerts. Is there some other settings to enable Observium to email logs of it's own? Am running rsyslog and postfix on the Ob server. Kohler generator issue

Hi, a while ago you added support for the Kohler Generators. (thanks). I am noticing some issues. 1. The generator is listed as in “alarm status” all the time, no matter whats going on with the generator 2. When the generator goes under load, the observium state does not change to reflect that. I have attached 2 screen shots to illustrate as well as a txt file with the corresponding snmpwalk outputs. Also, Kohler has updated the mib, I have attached that as well, can you update the code base with this? thanks Tony

Tiny diff (adding probes)

Hello maintainer friends, I'm not sure the proper protocol to request merging of small added bits, but I added two additional nprobe plugins, check_haproxy and check_ldap, to my install. The diff for probes.inc.php is below, but it also required a small modification to the check_ldap perl script (update hard-coded module dir). The LDAP probe I used is the version in the nagios-probe-contrib package Debian package, not the compiled C version distributed via the plugins tarfile from nagios.org; I used it because the contrib/perl version allows anonymous binding for just a basic service health check and doesn't require user/pwd/base-DN. Alerting on custom application values

Greetings All, Can you set an alert on a value imported from a custom application? E.g, if I’m tracking the %CPU and %Memory of a specific application on a linux host, can I set an alert check on something like cpu greater 50? All graphs are working fine. Apologies if anyone has already seen it. ---- I'm just wondering, has anyone dabbled with getting rrdtool to use more contrasting colours for composite graphs? We have some graphs, such as peering graphs, that are made up of 15+ components, and each component is currently a nearly identical shade of green or purple, which means that even with the legend enabled it is very difficult to see which component is which. I'm imagining that instead of using shades of green, you could use a rainbow of very distinctly different colours and readability would improve. I'm interested to hear whether anyone has tried to do this before, or if it's a non-starter for some reason. Saving changes to a large number of sensors

Hi, It seems that on a couple of Cisco ASR9k devices (with exceptionally large counts of sensors) we are now unable to save changes to them. Specifically, setting custom values and enabling or disabling alerts for individual sensors. Now, I remember that during Observium setup (a _long_ time ago) there was a step for amending either PHP or MySQL to allow a very long POST or query or something, which is required when you update a page with hundreds of boxes and buttons on it. I’m assuming either these devices have grown to the point where this setting is no longer adequately large, or perhaps the setting on the server has been inadvertently changed. Reset interface graph after upgrade the router

Hello, I upgraded our Cisco ASR router, and after the upgrade all of ports graphs cleared, so at this moment i have 4 interfaces with 2 days old graphs. I think port ID or something similar things are changed. So now i have 4 files that not touched in the last 2 days: port-19.rrd port-20.rrd port-21.rrd port-3.rrd I think this is the 4 missed graphs. The question is: how can i figure out which rrd means witch interface? From the database or somehow? What and where do I need to configure in Observium for SMTP settings so that I can receive email alerts? Any mail application better mail vs sendmail? I was able to run my svn update before, but cannot anymore.

I am looking for suggestions. When I run: svn co http://svn.observium.org/svn/observium/branches/stable observium it just sits there. I am behind a proxy and was able to do two updates in the past, but cannot anymore for some reason. I have verified my settings for the proxy (in ~/.subversion/servers). I would believe that was the issue, but they have not changed since a few months ago when I last updated. I thought it might be authentication issues, so I went to http://svn.observium.org/svn/observium/branches/stable and can use my username and password to get in, works fine. I have removed all authentication (from /root/.subversion/auth) and put in my username and password again at the prompt, still it just sits there. Any suggetions? incorrect uptimes shown

HP PDU cosmetic bug

Hello, I am happy that the Observium can monitoring the our HP PDUs too! But i found a cosmetic problem. Here is what the PDU shows: [cid:part1.B3B09EA5.D2E13E98@emarsys.com] And what the Observium (9906) shows me: [cid:part2.3649AB3C.D055B67A@emarsys.com] So the "Total Load Feed" looks like need to divide by 10. If the mouse is over the "Power" green value (that is now 2.59kW) the popup shows me: "Normal state 64.31685344686dBm" There is any option to shows the segments too not just the summarized power feed ? Mixed authentication (subscribed version)

Hi all, I don't suppose there's any plans to do a "mixed authentication" feature? We'd like to provide granular access to customer's devices, but centralise all our logins via radius which seemingly can't provide granular access; I can log users in with a '1' permission level, but then I would need to permit access to certain devices, which I can't do since there's no DB-side record of their user id. I see lots of systems which contain an internal database of user IDs matching an external authentication mechanism which then contain the granular bits but don't think Observium does anything like this atm? Maybe even a fallback of "radius,mysql" if we expressly denied the radius auth first? Are 802.1ag or Y.1731 monitored?

I’ll be deploying some switches Real Soon Now that will be running 802.1ag / MEF OAM-CFM / Y.1731 protocols to get fine-grained as-measured QoS data about the underlying carrier. Is any of that monitored automatically by Observium? Specifically, I’m referring to the counters found in IEEE8021-CFM-MIB and MEF-SOAM-PM-MIB. I’ll be running a small enough number of Management Domains (in IEEE/MEF/ITU-speak) that I can do custom graphs if I have to… but it would sure be nice to not have to! Question about Cisco 3650 CPU polling

Hello! Cisco has big problems with 3650 with severalt bugs with high utilization of CPU and memory-leaks. Unfortunally this problem with CPU isnt seen in Observium. The graph is showing the output from sh cpu platform, stable at 49-50% for example: CPU utilization for five seconds: 48%, one minute: 49%, five minutes: 49% Core 0: CPU utilization for five seconds: 50%, one minute: 49%, five minutes: 49% Core 1: CPU utilization for five seconds: 48%, one minute: 51%, five minutes: 49% Core 2: CPU utilization for five seconds: 47%, one minute: 47%, five minutes: 49% Core 3: CPU utilization for five seconds: 49%, one minute: 48%, five minutes: 49% In the meantime we have extreamly high cpu sh processes cpu CPU utilization for five seconds: 95%/29%; one minute: 96%; five minutes: 96% The High cpu causes at least that the device is alerting as down since it cant answer snmp-polling. Is this fixable so we can get alerts from high CPU? dashboard - alert status widget slider missed

Hello In the latest version (r10023 - but may be it was never worked) the Alert status widget does not contain slider on the right side if the alerts are more than it fit to the widget's size. Added a picture where You can see the slider is present in the right side of the Status warning widget but missed in the Alert Status widget. Observium alert checker - polling when devices are unresponsive

Hi, I'm trying to create an alert for ports which have an egress percentage over 80%. It's creating false positives for devices that are down during the poll which makes the alert logging report I'm trying to generate rather useless (see a screenshot of the Alert checker below) I tried putting device_status eq 1 into the Test Conditions and requiring all conditions, if I do that, an alert is never generated [cid:image001.png@01D56D44.F618ECD0] What is the best way to achieve this? port parsing and port descriptions

I'm admittedly quite the gimp when it comes to Linux and Observium, but I'm learning little by little. I have a custom port group setup to view my VMware network ports (port name / description=VMWare:SomePort). Several of these links are actually aggregated. In the HP/Aruba world they are Trunks. As far as I know, I cannot throw a description on a virtual port / trunk in HP-land. I wonder, is there a way, without being a PHP-guru to add a particular port to a custom port group when I'm unable to provide a port description? If not, that might be a neat feature at some point. Custom polling interval for a device group

Hi We are using Observium Professional: 19.6.9946 (rolling) Interval for polling: 5 minutes I have the issue that some of our network equipment (HPE gear) generates false-positives frequently. It is marked as down, then at the next polling cycle up again. Is it possible to define a custom polling cycle (i.e. 2 minute) for a certain device match (i.e. "device.type in network")? Then, i could generate an alert checker for this with the "Delay" set to 1, so that these devices are scanned every 2 minutes, but only if they are down 2 polling cycles in a row, an alert is generated. 6500 Sensors

Hi, After no issues for ages, rather like busses, these things seem to come along at the same time!... Following a svn up earlier today to ensure we had the latest version (for a storage/snmp issue) - we now seem to have gained some sensors which are in alarm state on every single 6500 chassis. I have a really vague memory of hitting this before, like many years ago, but can't quite put my finger on it. It seems to be picking up all these new sensors (which is fine) - but one of them (clock 2 'clock-inuse') should probably be considered "false=happy" and "true=alert" - (because that means clock 1 has failed). If it helps, the new ones are all within ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB as shown above (and not CISCO-ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB which are the original ones). Some are also duplicates it seems. "Three months" graph annoyance

Hi all! Is there an option to change the graph for the "Three Months" view to use the same logic to display the X axis labels as the "One Month" graph - "DoW Day Month" instead of "Week XX"? Rationale: Any metric's "Three Months" view shows the graph with the x-axis showing the week number. We find this kinda annoying, as while keeping account of and shuffling around the time, day, month, year is easy, handling the number of current week is awkward. At least here in Hungary the week number - while it is used in some places (like lottery results) -, it is mostly unused, only an interesting fact in a calendar. Thank you in advance.
