Device showing interface error cleared long ago

Hi, I have a device which is always showing an interface error which was previous to the Observium installation. I cleared the error on the switch and it did not reproduce. However Observium is showing it every day I check. I've tried to delete the device and adding it back and it show the error again. After upgrading to the latests CE it is the same. Maybe this has persisted in the DB, I don't know... Does anyone has any hint for this behaviour? Thanks in advance and best regards, Pau

DOM optic sensor graphs always rounded to 0W

Hi, Currently running: 0.16.1.7533 (26th January 2016) We’ve noticed the DOM optic power sensor data to be graphed at 0W all the time. Noticing the ‘value’ figure is correct on the optic’s power status page, we subsequently found all data in the RRD to be correct. eg:  <row><v>6.1840000000e-04</v></row>  <row><v>6.1300000000e-04</v></row>  <row><v>6.1435000000e-04</v></row> It just seems the rrdtool graph function is not rendering this sensor data with anything useful. Subscription Graphs Issue/API

Well, my graphs do not work. Trying to figure out where I went wrong so I do not have to reinstall from scratch. Any assistance, is highly appreciated. Creating group with ifInOctets_perc

Hi, Seems that I can’t create a group that uses ifInOctets_perc for its entity match ? Is this because of a reason/bug or I am doing it stupidly ? My alert checker is working fine and I was able to create a group with ifOperStatus. They are both in the Mettrics category so I expected them to work the same way. Panasas support

Hi, I have a few Panasas devices that (not surprisingly) Observium doesn’t handle very well. It basically only get the uptime out of it. The devices are similar to this : http://www.panasas.com/products/activestor-16-18 I have attached debug discovery, poller and snmpwalk of the top tree and enterprise parts. I also have attached the mibs from the device (retrieved from the device itself) and a logo (retrieved from http://www.panasas.com/news/press-room ) It looks like there is very little in the standard places and every interesting thing has been shoved into the enterprise tree. Do you think it is possible to add support for these devices ? Filtering ports/devices

Does anybody know of a syntax that will allow multiple matches when filtering on device hostnames? I'm specifically on the all ports page. We've smashed two separate networks together and there are different naming conventions in use. When I want to look at only one side of the network, it would be easy if I could match all devices starting with p, s or m-. The hostname field doesn't seem to accept regex, nor does it accept "or" statements. Is there a solution to this? Cheers, Michael

Alerts based on RRD averages?

Hi all, I'm curious if it is possible to create an alert that considers an RRD average? For example, if I want to generate an alert that looks at the average utilization of a port over a 24 hour period, and if the average bit rate or percentage is greater than X, send an alert? I have been working with alerts that trigger based on a percentage, but if the port drops below that mark for even a short period of time (minutes, perhaps even an hour or two), the clock resets. Greetings, We've just purchased both of these printers. I've started monitoring them with Observium, but all I see under Inventory are the printer itself (hrDevicePrinter) and the printer's hard disk (hrDeviceDiskStorage). Have I missed doing something, or are these printers just not supported? This is by no means urgent. I've never tried to monitor a printer before and I just wanted to see what Observium told me about them. Hi all, We are using a customized location rewrite function to split the SNMP location of devices into a human readable and a machine understandable format. We are using the community edition, and on updating to the recent version we were faced with thIS error message: PHP Fatal error: Cannot redeclare custom_rewrite_location() (previously declared in /opt/observium/config.php:87) in /opt/observium/config.php on line 102 This is a common error when a php file is included/required more than once, so I made a workaround by renaming config.php to config.user.php and using require_once() in the original config.php to load these directives (it needs absolute path otherways it cannot find the file). Shouldn't require_once/include_once be used in all the places where referencing config.php? Br, Tylla,

Observium syslog year -0001

Lately (Since last CE update, I think) I've been seeing syslog messages for my Cisco router with a date stamp of "-0001-11-30" with text reading just something like "1:1". A little searching reveals that there was a mail list post from July 2014 for the same thing happening with Netgear equipment, but the only way I could see that post was through Google's cached result, and I can't find any replies. Is anyone else getting this? Known issue, perhaps?

Export/import hosts

Hello, Because we have a problem with the alerts (if i set up an alert the Observium send an alert in every 5 minutes instead of 1 alert / 24 hour ) i decided to reinstall the Observium (First i installed the 201506(?) CE and updated it to CE 0.16.1.7533) So the question is can i export the hosts and import back after the reinstall procedure? Currently i have more than 50 hosts, so it is faster if i can just do an export/import instead of add all host again…. Thanks Laszlo

losing device information after adding IP SLA

Hi, We have a few devices in our Observium installation which lost some sensor en memory pools during discovery. See below. It looks like the problem started around 5 days ago. [cid:image004.png@01D16E44.AA924840] It looks like that after enabling a new IP SLA config on a new device, and running a discovery, first the new IP SLA entity appeared. But after waiting a few minutes, the IP SLA and more entities, disappeared. [cid:image005.png@01D16E46.CFB02A50] I attached the discovery debug information for both hosts. Normal Users not getting permissions using Active Directory

I have included the link at the bottom to where I described the issue which was marked “resolved” and I was pointed here for help. I have the professional version of observium where users are all successfully authenticating, but when normal users log in they can’t see anything. I edited there permissions and allowed them all to see multiple devices(screenshot in link),but they still can’t see anything. Observium recognizes they log in as normal users, but doesn’t let them see any of the other devices they have access to. Global Read, and administrators work fine. Dell ESXi v6 hosts RAM not reporting

I have a few host that were recently upgraded from ESXi5.1 to ESXi6.0. After upgrading, Observium no longer is reporting on physical RAM, at all. Host are Dell r810/r720; at time of upgrade their OpenManage was also upgraded to 8.2. The Observium event log for the servers say... "Memory pool removed: mib host-resources-mib, index 27, descr Real Memory" So I see it was removed, but why? I did an smptwalk on the box "snmpwalk -v2c -c XXXXX 10.X.X.X .1.3.6.1.2.1.25.2.2.0"--> HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrMemorySize.0 = INTEGER: 536857360 Kbytes It looks like the value it still there. Hi again. Increased innodb_buffer_pool_size and restarted mysqld - solved the problem. Buffer_pool_size has probably nothing to do with this issue but I was also getting warnings about buffer pool is occupied by InnoDB: lock heaps or the adaptive hash index. It is a good thing to sometimes keep a peek into /var/log/mysqld.log file (or where ever it is stored). Dear all, I am currently developing a new application agent for Oracle databases and need some guidance on how to implement it properly. My first goal is to get the current and historical usage of each tablespace - a DB consists of multiple tablespaces. This would give a good overview of data growth inside a database. My application agent running on my DB is polling the data via SQL and returning it to observium as comma spaced values. The output looks as follows: CIT;600;596.63 COMPASS;28488;1406.5 COMPASS_IDX;27996;1568.06 CONFIG;1000;959.69 CONTROLLING;600;596.69 CSR;40960;4966 Now I'm almost at my question. All existing application agents I know are rather static, containing only certain fixed (and hard coded) entities. Tablespaces are much like storage in my point of view so I think it would be a good idea to implement them as a new storage-type in the storage table of the observium database. Is this a proper way to do it or do you suggest a different approach? I'd like to be as compatible as possible to future updates and would also contribute my code if anyone needs it. Unknown Locations in Device > Locations menu

Hi All I'm having some trouble with Observium's mapping - we have it configured to build the Location list and geolocation, etc automatically based on the address/location pulled via SNMP. This works for almost every device we have, but there are two devices which show up under Unknown Location, even though Observium has pulled correct and valid address data for them. It does not appear to successfully pull co-ordinates for the address either, as the two devices appear on the map in the middle of the ocean. I have tried switching from the Yahoo API to the Google API (with API key) but this has not changed the behaviour of the issue. Currently on version 0.16.2.7592, we update via SVN once a month and we were having this same issue on 0.16.1.x as-well. Hoping somebody here has seen this issue before and can help me out or point me in the right direction.

Device mix-up

So, weird thing happened today … We had a network outage that lasted for maybe 45 minutes that kept Observium from monitoring one site. When Observium resumed its normal monitoring activities, it somehow added a whole bunch of inventory items for a Cisco router to a KVM virtual server. About 10 minutes ago, it deleted all of the Cisco items, and is now back to normal. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Speeding up caching and database

Hi Team, I have a performance issue with the web interface. My Observium is monitoring 3095 devices from which 168 are switches (Just a bit less than 20000 ports total). My server is an IBM X3650 M4, 32G of ram, 6 cores and a raid 10 of SSD. I am more than happy with the polling performance has it finishing in under 200seconds. But the web interface is quite annoying : I have a minimum Time to first bit of ~2seconds. Once these two seconds have passed the page load almost instantly, graphs included. So the question is, can I speed things up ? And if yes how ? It looks like Observium is spending about a second in the database and says that the Cache took 2 seconds to process (?). Do I have some leverage on these points to make it faster ? Sorting on traffic bug?

Hi, when you are in the ports view of a switch, and you sort on the column traffic. speeds op 900Mbit are sorted before 1.5Gbit. probably because 900 is larger than 1.5 but the unit is different so i guess that needs to be taken into account somehow?

Guys, need some assistance here. I updated Observium this morning to Observium Professional 0.16.2.7609. Since that upgrade all my devices have shown down. If I go to the command line I am able to ping via DNS all the devices. I did notice that during the svn update it seemed that a lot of the MIB’s were updated. Any guidance on what direction I should be looking to bring my system back online? Thanks, Aaron

Mathieu Arnold contributed a fix (https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=207057) which, together with a few other small patches & cleanups has been merged into the FreeBSD ports collection a few hours ago. Hi, >From yesterday, my observium poller stopped working. I have paid observium and probably something happened in source daily updates. Output from debug is below. When I do snmpget from observium server manually without "-M" option I get values correctly. Anybody have the same problem? Cisco Port Errors Alerts

We are monitoring Cisco routers using Observium We have seen that the list of Errored Ports displays only ports that have "Tx/Rx Errors" on them - it is not displaying ports which have "Tx/Rx Discards". The Custom Alerts documentation also does not mention any way to check Interface Discards separately, We have tried adding ifOutDiscards_rate, but it does not work. Is there any way to achieve this.
