Feature request + issues with NetApp cDot and EMC Isilon

Hi Not sure if there is a better place for feature requests, but here it goes : 1. In the group option it would be great to be able to create subgroups and assign/re-assign, so different measures related to the same infrastructure or area can be kept together. 2. Currently it is not possible to rename a group. Would be nice to have this option. 3. Would be great to have some simple functions / regex related to the group graphs to allow consolidating & filtering the data further. Right now it will either aggregate/stack data depending on what it is and it would be more flexible to have some control over this. Also being able to give the aggregated data some more meaningful data labels would be nice. Some time back I asked about NetApp cDOT support....got no answer but saw on the forum that someone was looking into this several months back. Right now the cDOT support is very limited as the MIB is different compared to standard OnTAP and it allow for multiple controller pairs in the same cluster. Any news on what the status is ? Same story for Isilon, here all the server data is gathered, but with complete unawareness of the nodes being in a cluster.... so the only way to get cluster data properly recorded & presented is to create a group for all nodes and create aggregated graphs. Anyone using Observium with IBM GPFS (ESS) ? /Jesper

FW: Correct metrics for storage_free checker

Hi, I'd like to use the storage_free (instead of storage_perc) to get an alert if disk space is below 500 MB. What kind of units are used (byts/mb/kb/gb) ? I was thinking the rule would be like 'storage_free lt 500' if it's in megabytes. Or should i use 'gb' or 'mb' in the equation? Regards, Hilco

Hi Command used : /opt/observium/rename_device.php azimuth3 srvbggwer004 Host azimuth3 renamed to srvbggwer004 I see the server under Devices | All devices, but it disappears from "Servers". Also naming back to "azimuth3" doesn't solve. Is there a database hack to place the host in the right category ? Observium CE 0.15.6.6430 best regards, Sala

Request: Add a device proactively

Observium team, I just finished pre-deploying a few routers for a new client, and I'm adding each one to our monitoring platforms in advance. As they're offline, I'll be unable to add them to Observium until they respond to SNMP / ICMP. Is there a way I could add these proactively, and work around the error that Observium pushes our by default? Ideally, I'd like to add them all now, disable their alerts, and enable them when they're deployed and connectivity is in place. I see you have a Ignore RRD checkbox on the add device page. I wonder if we could have another that says, "Add even though device is offline"? As always, thank you for your feedback and time on this. I was going to do something simular, but thought I'd request a feature add. When I deploy my devices, I deploy them with a script that's been standardized / approved. Setting up DHCP would be possible, but it adds additional steps (prone to user error) and may not be possible for all Observium users. I can see why you may not want to add it, but I feel it would be a really nice time saver for future deployments. You configured Observium to say no, I wont poll you if I can't find you. I think this is a little bit of a grey area, where we know it'll be there eventually. Just my two cents. Observium CE, housekeeping.php parameters

Hi ! Reading http://www.observium.org/docs/housekeeping/ -b Cleans up stale entries in the database. Sometimes entries get left behind when devices are removed, this will clean them up. It seems the switch is missing : /opt/observium/housekeeping.php Observium CE 0.15.6.6430 HouseKeeping USAGE: housekeeping.php [-Vyaserptd] [-A <age>] I don't know if the web page is outdated, or I have to update our installation. Also for me it is useful to add a device even if "dead". If you prefer, add a switch to add_device.php --no-snmp don't check device online So only the wise guys will force it. best regards, Massimo

Cannot see ospf or bgp related graphs on Nexus 9000 and MX 480

Hi,I have installed Observium and have ospf and bgp related polling ,discovery parameters in the config.php file. However, I am unable to see the routing protocol related graph in the web page. Juniper QFX 10G ports discovered as 4.29G

Just FYI, the 10G ports on a QFX 5100 running latest JunOS are being reported with a speed of 4.29Gbps, which I assume is likely the actual returned value being constrained by a 32-bit container? Not a critical thing for us to fix - I was actually disabling polling for all of our Juniper vcp stacks in Observium (most of them take > 300s to complete a polling cycle) but noticed this as I was going through them and figured I'd pass it along. Great progress. Data now appears in RRD, just it’s off by 10 X. Plots show 1.1, correct answer is 11.0 Amps. When I look at the device with iReasoning MIB browser, using the UPS-MIB supplied by TrippLite, or the UPS-MIB from Observium, it says: integer: 11 See attached. Seems most of the MIB files mention units of “0.1 RMS Amp”. Not sure what that does. Hi. New to this list, so please excuse if I break etiquette. For couple years we happily used Observium to monitor and track current through our Tripplite PDUMNH20. Thanks to you all for Observium. Life was OK, but the integrated Tripplite SNMPWEBCARDs had problems from time to time. Tripplite rolled out new firmware (currently 12.06.0065) and that issue was resolved. (SNMPWEBCARD is a component used in many of their products.) Unfortunately, now current plots as a flat line at 0. I've worked with Tripplite support to verify some data is present with snmpwalk. Escaped sysContact not being escaped properly

I've got several UBNT devices all running EdgeMax 1.7.0 It appears that they escape the sysContact (and a few other fields) in quotes even if they don't have spaces in them. Observium seems to eat the first one properly but not the second. snmpwalk -Os -c public -v 2c router01 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.4 iso.3.6.1.2.1.1.4.0 = STRING: "\"hostmaster(a)arbor.net\"" However in the UI I see this: sysContact*=>*hostmaster(a)arbor.net\ Which causes email notifications to fail, because of the bad email address. Ignore Statuses Possible?

Hello We have a few AC powered Foundry FWS-24 switches. Observium is showing alerts for the secondary power supply and fans under statuses. Is there anyway to ignore these? I tried poking around and couldn’t find anything that would do the trick. I don’t even think they have secondary power supplies and fans. Maybe in another hardware configuration but certainly not ours. I have attached a screenshot. Running Observium Professional 0.15.10.7072

dlink DGS-1100-24 only found as generic

Hi All, our new D-Link DGS-1100-24 switches are only being discovered as generic device but strangely enough its finding 1 vlan? the syObjectID is being found as .1.3.6.1.4.1.171 but i can see inside os.inc.php the sysObjectID is already included as D-Link-Generic (Line:1950) even tho it could be put under the D-Link Switch (Line:1927) i have included a run poller.php and discover.php commands here - http://pastebin.com/8iKYU16N can the great and wonderful people working at Observium please help :-) Regards Simon - Hestor Ltd

Problem adding user to view a port / vlan

Hi Everyone, Is there a procedure for adding a single user who I want to see vlan traffic statistics and the ports on a switch. I have tired creating a normal user which worked fine. However when I select the device and the port and click Add nothing happens. When I click refresh it still says "This user currently has no permitted ports" Any help would be appreciated, I am using the Professional version 0.15.10.7095 Thanks Stephen

email alert showing device_ping

Hi All, has anybody noticed the weird alerts being sent by email or is it just myself with this issue? I have an alert setup to tell me if device_uptime is between 0 and 600 then alert me (rebooted kit/server) however the email is showing the words device_ping under the email alerts where a graph would show if the alert had a graph attached a screenshot to show you what i mean regards Simon

Orphaned ports

I've been digging around in my database, trying to figure out why I have a large number of ports listed in my observium interface, compared to the number of devices I have. I have discovered several devices that were removed (via delete_device.php) a while back, but it seems that the ports table wasn't completely cleaned up. Rather than fight with them, I just removed them. My question is this, how can I clean up the remnants? Can I just delete these orphaned ports from the table? Or will I break anything if I do that? Multiple OSPF processes

Hello, I have noticed only 1 OSPF process is detected on cisco devices. I have a Catalyst 4500 with 3 processes but only one of them is handle by observium. Is this the normal behavior or does it require special config or not supported at all? Thanks in advance, Miguel

Hello! I've wird problem with "Can't resolve ...." when adding device (from ./add_device.php and from website). $config['snmp']['max-rep'] working?

Hi Chaps, I'm trying to use $config['snmp']['max-rep] = 9 to work around an issue with a device that won't return everything from ifAlias when using the default (10), however checking the discovery debug it doesn't actually seem to actually be setting the -Cr option in snmpbulkwalk? Am I missing something else to make this work, or is it actually just not working due to its 'experimental' state in the documentation? Running 0.15.10.7059 Thanks, Tim C

Finally, I managed to have the APP tab, however 2 problems still persist: 1. The NTP Graphs and PDNS the show nothing, just error graph not drawing 2. over the last few days i have starting seen alert mails with device down.. but its not down.. and there is no recover.. anyone got a suggestion why that could be? I mean it could be a short connection problem but than i would assume to see recover mail aswell?

More Observium integrations with rancid

So we've got rancid integration working (thanks Adam and others) in Observium for all of our Mikrotik devices and it is working great. We've got a few Ubiquiti EdgeRouters (based on Vyatta) that we'd like to get hooked up with rancid as well, but the Observium integration confuses me a bit. Do we edit the cloginrc file with the info for how to log into EdgeRouters? I would have assumed we would normally use a different group to tell rancid how to pull config's but everything is just in the Observium group. How does everyone setup rancid to pull down more than one equipment manufacturer's gear? Has anyone pulled config's through rancid into Observium from EdgeRouters?
