Hi Everyone! Is there a way to find out the date of the "first contact" with a device from Observium? I mean for example the date when the first discovery was run on a specific device, or something like this? (Currently the device's event log runs out after half a year.) Any ideas? Regards, Tylla

Hello, First of all, congratulations for your great product :) I have been searching this the forum but I can't find an answer for this :( We are currently using Observium Pro v18.10.9500. I'm trying to configure emailing so that I would like to be notified on some alerts generated by some of the alert checkers but not all of them, but I'm not able to do it :( Currently I'm receiving email alerts from all of my checkers. User access levels

Hi, I have another beginner question please. I have setup Active Directory authentication, but how can I limit users to exact devices? I really do not want for some users to see anything else than they need to and all of them have level 1 access. And I can't see any option to limit them or assign user to device. Also it would be great to assign users to exact device group I have created. Thanks a lot Tibor

How to add a device which only responds to ping/icmp?

Hi How can i add a device which cannot (!) speak any snmp and only responds to ping/icmp requests? We have an Aruba wlan setup (Mobility Master and two Mobility Controllers) and i want to add the aps to Observium, so that they are monitored but only by ping/icmp. Missing some nice stats from Cisco 9800 that I got from Cisco 5520

Hi Our organization recently upgraded from Cisco 5520 WLC to Cisco 9800 WLC. In observium I get really good statistics about wireless client count and wireless ap count on the 5520 but not on the 9800. I am not sure if this is something on observium side or cisco side. But I wanted to ask if anyone has the same issue and if they found a solution. Or maybe this is just something that needs to be added. Many devices shown as down(dns)

Hello all, I can see in my observium installation that many devices changed their status to down(dns). This is a new installation and we migrated the configuration yesterday on a new server and devices were working properly. At around the same time (14:20:00) a lot of our machines changed their status to down. The message in the Event log is "Device status changed to Down (dns)". I tried to find what the problem may be but I can see SNMP are correct and dns records exist for the systems. Any ideas? Thank you, Marios

Ignore priority 7 syslog

Hi Some unfortunate soul enabled BGP debugging on a device and then forgot all about it. I'm now trying to delete 76 million records from the syslog database.. Is there a way to ignore syslog messages with priority 7 in the syslog import in Observium? It'll probably happen again someday. Port Group aggregate graphs refresh

Hi all, I have a question (or maybe a feature request). Can I automatically refresh aggregated graphs based on Port Group? Let's say I have a Port Group based on ifAlias regexp. I can manually create an aggregated graph of it - bits, broadcasts, or discards. Then use created graph in the dashboard. The problem is a number of items in Port Group are changing over time, and I need to refresh these aggregated graphs manually. That means performing these steps 1) Ports -> Groups -> <My group name> 2) Aggregate Graphs -> Bits 3) Click on graph -> Add to the Dashboard 4) Repeat for all Aggregated graphs (Bits, Broadcasts, Multicasts, Discards) 5) delete old Aggregated graphs from the dashboard 6) position newly added graphs (with the actual number of ports) It would be very handful to have a script refreshing aggregated graphs automatically. Error "Creation Failed" when Adding Port Groups

Goal: Attempting to make “aggregate” graphs by calculating port bandwidth from multiple devices. For example, a graph that shows the total bandwidth of IP transit or IXP Peering ports that are not in LAG groups on Cisco gear. Problem Statement: When creating a “Group” of ports I get an error in red that says “Creation Failed: Unknown action requested.” Problem Description: 1. Click “Create New Group” in the GUI 2. Select Entity Type “Port” 3. Give group name of “TestGroup1” 4. Select “Device” from the dropdown, default to “in” and select a Cisco router in the dropdown that is already present and working in Observium 5. Click “Add rule” select “AND” choose “Port ifIndex” “equals” enter in the field the ifindex a. I’ve also tried adding just one or even multiple rules with “OR’s” results in this message b. I’ve also tried adding the port with “Port ID”, “Port ifDescr”, “Port ifName” and others all result in this failure message c. I’m getting the port_id, ifindex, ifName, etc from the “Data” tab when viewing a Port of the Cisco in Observium 6. Click the bottom right, green “Add Group” and receive the error message: “Creation Failed: Unknown action requested.” Can someone direct me to how to make such graphs? And/or explain what I might be doing wrong that I cannot create Port Groups? Still cannot log onto the web console

Hi Adam, A long time ago, I sent an email saying I could not log onto the Observium website. It appears to be still working when I look at the log file which is HUGE, 1781351488 in size. I was looking at the housekeeping option but when I was poking around in the terminal, I see there is cron.daily, cron.weekly, cron.monthly. no cron.d How can I run this on the fly to clean up that file? I could not figure that out. my Linux is amateur at best. I can navigate around, and edit files, but no coding experience. Please help.. I have made many changes to our network and I need to ger this so we can log in and I need to update the devices. Thank you! Forigate with virtual interfaces only

Hi all, I have a short question: Does each device's main "traffic graph" (aggregated traffic in the overview) only show physical interfaces? Today I installed FG-200F with all interfaces as LAG (LAN and WAN is the LAG interface of 2 physical interfaces). Unfortunately, I cannot see traffic from LAG interfaces counted in total traffic. The main graph looks like traffic is aggregated per physical interface only. Any solution for this, please? BTW - Fortigate is not showing physical interfaces when they are part of LAG. Syslog host matching with multiple devices and 1 public IP

Hi, We have recently started using the syslog part of Observium and for the most part it works well where we have multiple public IP's logs are coming from or for places where we have VPN's and can reach devices on their local IP's. We are running into a problem however when we have multiple devices pushing their syslog's to us over a WAN link and they come from the same public IP. We're using the %fromhost% variable in the configuration and all logs seem to end up with the first device that we have set in /etc/hosts to match the public IP. We've tried changing the %fromhost% to %hostname% instead thinking it would use the hostname within the log entry but unfortunately that didn't work either. I've had a look at the documentation on how to do manual matching but I don't think that would help here either as it's only going to match the public IP. Has anyone come up against this before and know if there is a way to resolve it or will I need to create VPN's to each of those sites so we can push the logs over their private IP's instead?

Values keep flapping

Hi all, I'm wondering why a lot of our device's values keep flapping. It's outside of the discovery schedule. Therefore I guess it's something with SNMP timers. It happens on all devices randomly. Understanding device availability graph

Good Morning, I am dealing with IT who has no understanding about networks, they have looked at a particular graph on Observium being the device availability and blaming that the issue is the switch based on what they see on the graph. The availability is 100% however there are sections that are shown red. Could you tell me what the red gradings is supposed to represent please?
