HP PDU cosmetic bug

Hello, I am happy that the Observium can monitoring the our HP PDUs too! But i found a cosmetic problem. Here is what the PDU shows: [cid:part1.B3B09EA5.D2E13E98@emarsys.com] And what the Observium (9906) shows me: [cid:part2.3649AB3C.D055B67A@emarsys.com] So the "Total Load Feed" looks like need to divide by 10. If the mouse is over the "Power" green value (that is now 2.59kW) the popup shows me: "Normal state 64.31685344686dBm" There is any option to shows the segments too not just the summarized power feed ? Mixed authentication (subscribed version)

Hi all, I don't suppose there's any plans to do a "mixed authentication" feature? We'd like to provide granular access to customer's devices, but centralise all our logins via radius which seemingly can't provide granular access; I can log users in with a '1' permission level, but then I would need to permit access to certain devices, which I can't do since there's no DB-side record of their user id. I see lots of systems which contain an internal database of user IDs matching an external authentication mechanism which then contain the granular bits but don't think Observium does anything like this atm? Maybe even a fallback of "radius,mysql" if we expressly denied the radius auth first? Are 802.1ag or Y.1731 monitored?

I’ll be deploying some switches Real Soon Now that will be running 802.1ag / MEF OAM-CFM / Y.1731 protocols to get fine-grained as-measured QoS data about the underlying carrier. Is any of that monitored automatically by Observium? Specifically, I’m referring to the counters found in IEEE8021-CFM-MIB and MEF-SOAM-PM-MIB. I’ll be running a small enough number of Management Domains (in IEEE/MEF/ITU-speak) that I can do custom graphs if I have to… but it would sure be nice to not have to! Question about Cisco 3650 CPU polling

Hello! Cisco has big problems with 3650 with severalt bugs with high utilization of CPU and memory-leaks. Unfortunally this problem with CPU isnt seen in Observium. The graph is showing the output from sh cpu platform, stable at 49-50% for example: CPU utilization for five seconds: 48%, one minute: 49%, five minutes: 49% Core 0: CPU utilization for five seconds: 50%, one minute: 49%, five minutes: 49% Core 1: CPU utilization for five seconds: 48%, one minute: 51%, five minutes: 49% Core 2: CPU utilization for five seconds: 47%, one minute: 47%, five minutes: 49% Core 3: CPU utilization for five seconds: 49%, one minute: 48%, five minutes: 49% In the meantime we have extreamly high cpu sh processes cpu CPU utilization for five seconds: 95%/29%; one minute: 96%; five minutes: 96% The High cpu causes at least that the device is alerting as down since it cant answer snmp-polling. Is this fixable so we can get alerts from high CPU? Hello In the latest version (r10023 - but may be it was never worked) the Alert status widget does not contain slider on the right side if the alerts are more than it fit to the widget's size. Added a picture where You can see the slider is present in the right side of the Status warning widget but missed in the Alert Status widget. Observium alert checker - polling when devices are unresponsive

Hi, I'm trying to create an alert for ports which have an egress percentage over 80%. It's creating false positives for devices that are down during the poll which makes the alert logging report I'm trying to generate rather useless (see a screenshot of the Alert checker below) I tried putting device_status eq 1 into the Test Conditions and requiring all conditions, if I do that, an alert is never generated [cid:image001.png@01D56D44.F618ECD0] What is the best way to achieve this? port parsing and port descriptions

I'm admittedly quite the gimp when it comes to Linux and Observium, but I'm learning little by little. I have a custom port group setup to view my VMware network ports (port name / description=VMWare:SomePort). Several of these links are actually aggregated. In the HP/Aruba world they are Trunks. As far as I know, I cannot throw a description on a virtual port / trunk in HP-land. I wonder, is there a way, without being a PHP-guru to add a particular port to a custom port group when I'm unable to provide a port description? If not, that might be a neat feature at some point. Custom polling interval for a device group

Hi We are using Observium Professional: 19.6.9946 (rolling) Interval for polling: 5 minutes I have the issue that some of our network equipment (HPE gear) generates false-positives frequently. It is marked as down, then at the next polling cycle up again. Is it possible to define a custom polling cycle (i.e. 2 minute) for a certain device match (i.e. "device.type in network")? Then, i could generate an alert checker for this with the "Delay" set to 1, so that these devices are scanned every 2 minutes, but only if they are down 2 polling cycles in a row, an alert is generated. 6500 Sensors

Hi, After no issues for ages, rather like busses, these things seem to come along at the same time!... Following a svn up earlier today to ensure we had the latest version (for a storage/snmp issue) - we now seem to have gained some sensors which are in alarm state on every single 6500 chassis. I have a really vague memory of hitting this before, like many years ago, but can't quite put my finger on it. It seems to be picking up all these new sensors (which is fine) - but one of them (clock 2 'clock-inuse') should probably be considered "false=happy" and "true=alert" - (because that means clock 1 has failed). If it helps, the new ones are all within ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB as shown above (and not CISCO-ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB which are the original ones). Some are also duplicates it seems. "Three months" graph annoyance

Hi all! Is there an option to change the graph for the "Three Months" view to use the same logic to display the X axis labels as the "One Month" graph - "DoW Day Month" instead of "Week XX"? Rationale: Any metric's "Three Months" view shows the graph with the x-axis showing the week number. We find this kinda annoying, as while keeping account of and shuffling around the time, day, month, year is easy, handling the number of current week is awkward. At least here in Hungary the week number - while it is used in some places (like lottery results) -, it is mostly unused, only an interesting fact in a calendar. Thank you in advance. I have tried some settings in the config.php file, but to no avail. question about Notification Modification

Hello, We have been using Observium for a couple of months now at our location, and it is working well.. The engineers have had one request though. The notifications that are being sent out have the hostname of the device but not the IP Address. Unfortunately, our network devices are not DNS (we are working to correct that), and to work around the issue, I have been updating the host file on the Observium server as I add devices. The notifications go out with the hostname, but not the IP, so the engineers have to hunt for the IP when they receive them. I have dug through the documentation, and have not been able to find/figure out a way of including the IP Address of the device with the notification (I have probably missed it). Can anyone assist me in adding that to the notifications? Upgrade to 19.8.10000 weirdness

I upgraded to 19.8.10000 (CE) and some how the alert contacts got goofed up. I had two webhooks when I upgraded (followed all the steps on the website to upgrade the CE and also ran discovery.php -u) and now, the "transport" selection list (for adding a new contact) is all goofed up (devnull... etc) and missing several transport types. Hello, i saw in mib.observium.com it support adaptec raid controller but in community edition there is no MIB for that and i have manually add it in /opt/observium/mibs , so finally comunity edition does not support adaptec MIB ? or is there anyway do it manually? THank you.

I'm having a problem polling my high capacity devices. The following command can take up to 18 minutes to complete due to the number and interfaces. The command is /usr/bin/snmpwalk -v2c -c 'XXXXX' -Pu -OQUs -m IF-MIB -M /opt/observium/mibs/rfc:/opt/observium/mibs/net-snmp 'udp':'x.x.x.x':'161' ifEntry. Do the pro or enterprise versions change the way they poll devices? Are there configuration setting I can change to make? The devices I am polling have upwards of 1000 interfaces. Printing / saving Observium pages?

In talking to my external partners, I often need to document the current state of a port. Observium’s Ports screen is perfect for the task… except that there’s no way to save it, print it, turn it into a PDF, etc. I don’t want to grant the receiving person the ability to log into my Observium instance, I just want to send them the data neatly arrayed. Does anyone have a way to accomplish this with Observium? Right now I’m taking screenshots, cropping them, pasting them together, etc. which is a PITA. An issue with zooming the front page map

Hello, We're currently running Observium v19.6.9959. Lately (I'm afraid I'm not sure when this started), when we double-click to zoom in on an area it only stays zoomed in for at most 10 to 15 seconds. It then bounces back out to its default. We're using Refresh time 5 minutes, Wikimedia map tiles, map height 500 pixels, Google API with our API key all set via the web interface. Is anyone else seeing this? Lost all graphs after server shut down

Hi, So what happened was the power to the Ob server failed in weekend and was stuck in bios prompt when I got to work. I brought it up. Later I noticed that all the graphs were empty. I checked and saw that the date/time was set to Feb 2019 not sure why. I then synced the time. The old graphs are gone. The new usage are being populated. How would I start fixing this? Hi All We use a few Netgear GS110TP switches with POE for WiFi points and VOIP Phones Is it possible to have observium display the outputs of the power being provided to each port? Serial Number searches not working properly

Hi list, Hope everyone is well 😊 We have been using the serial number search feature a lot recently as part of an audit / support contract renewals. And we have found that when a stack of switches exists, only the first serial number for the first stack member is searchable! When going to the device and selecting the ‘Inventory’ tab, we can see the serial numbers for all stack members. But the search query is not finding these ☹ After discovering this exclusion, we have tested some more and found that the issue also exists for line cards. I.e. only the chassis serial number is searchable, the line card serial numbers in the chassis are not returning the node. Again, the serial numbers for the line cards are being correctly displayed in the Inventory. So at a guess, it seems like the SQL query needs enhancing to include the referential child rows or tables for devices internal components (guessing stack slave members are treated like line cards). traffic alert to a tunnel interface?

Hello I have some GRE tunnels without physical interface speed and theye are always in UP state. So in this case i am not able to set an alert to notify me when "ifInOctets perc le 1" or if the interface status is down. Is there any options to set up a byte/sec alert ex: i would like to get an alert if the average traffic is lower than 100 byte/sec in the last 5 mins ? Thanks Laszlo

I want to include the metrics "Memory buffers", "Physical Memory", "Swap space" but i want to exclude "Virtual memory". Is there a way of doing so and if so, how? Hello, We're running v19.6.9959. How do I tell Observium to look up the SNMP Location again for all devices? We've recently purchased an API key for google geocoding, which I've installed via the GUI. However, when I look at a specfic device --> Properties --> Geolocation, the Last updated field looks ok (2019-07-03 07:26:42) which is a few minutes after I logged into the device. Last update status, though, says: Geocoding ENABLED, try detect device coordinates: by PARSING sysLocation (API: YAHOO) - NOT REQUESTED GEO API REQUEST: QUERY DATE: Wed, 19 Jun 2019 12:16:42 -0400 It *does* work on a few devices, however, showing that it's using the Google API. Where would be a good place to start debugging this (as in, see exactly what observium is sending along with the response)? Thanks Richard J. Hi All, Just wondering if there is any support roadblocks if we use RHEL for our Observium installs with an enterprise license? I'm talking about scaling, feature requests, dev support...ect. We recently purchased an enterprise license and our environment is currently Debian, but we possibly need to move to RHEL. Eltek Compact Shelf Discovery

I've got a number of Eltek compact shelves (-48 VDC) power systems that are failing to discover. I get a bunch of these in the discovery debug. STDERR[ Error in packet Reason: (noSuchName) There is no such variable name in this MIB. Failed object: NSCRTV-ROOT::commonDeviceVendorInfo.1 ] It's able to pull the Sys Description and uptime. Hi, Hardware: HPE J9780A Switch 2530-8-PoEP Did some digging, thanks to the very helpful new? tool https://mibs.observium.org/mib/HP-ICF-POE-MIB/#hpicfPoePethPsePortPower It appears the PoE Power warning is based on being over poe (not poe+) limits, not sure how it determines what the maximum allowed should be. Hi Observium version: r9964 (rolling) OS: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Is there a way to only evaluate the ICMP answers for certain devices (and skip SNMP)? I know that it can be done the other way round (there is a switch in the device props). We run a bunch of H3C/HP/HPE switches and there are no SNMP answers sometimes which lead to false-positives (i know about this issue already). Hi, since some weeks POE Groups (or other power supply unity) are marked as alarm if no output power is specified: observium-alert-zero-power.png. In this case this is not a problem, it just means that no POE-device is connected to the switch. How can I remove the alarms here? Cheers Helge

Ubiquiti EdgeOS - Port Descriptors

Hi all - I have a number of EdgeOS devices in the field that I would like to add in to Observium but I am having an issue with the port descriptors as follows: I have set the interface description as follows - "description CUST:JOHNSONS(AAPT_NWBL2)[50M]{1736079}" using the CUST: and various brackets as outlined in the documentation. The OS does not like spaces in the description field so I was forced to remove them to get the config to stick. Problem is that when the interface is parsed the description comes up as just description CUSTJOHNSONSAAPT_NWBL250M1736079 which clearly is not going to be parsed correctly by Observium. Wondering if anyone has come across this previously and can pint me in the direction of a solution/workaround. Cheers Mal

Hello, I need a help with alerts: I have mikrotik, extreme, datacom, huawei, cisco ..., all registered by ip in observium and with their doors properly described in the equipment. The port down, device down, displays the ip of the device and the number of the port, in the cases of mikrotik it presents the description of the port, but in other cases it only displays the port number. When we receive an alert on the telegram for example, or even on the dashboard, we can not know what that port is until it clicks on it, could it send the description along with the alert in a way that works for all manufacturers? In mikrotik the association that I make is: port.ifAlias in others the association is: port.ifDescr One more question would be: In addition to sending the ip of the device, it would have to send the hostname of the device, this would be very useful also in the dashboard --

But if link to internet is down the messages never arrives on time. i was working on a solution "homemade", this implement a Arduino as web server and Gsm shield. Now observium can send SMS without externals. I have created a custom drop-down menu in the navbar, and would like to define a custom icon like; $config['icon’]['company-logo'] which provides a .png file in the images folder etc. Or more specifically instead of; $navbar['4D-DC'] = array('url' => '#', 'icon' => $config['icon']['company-logo'], 'title' => 'URLS'); Maybe this would work (sadly it doesn’t); $navbar['4D-DC'] = array('url' => '#', 'icon' => ‘images/company-logo.png’, 'title' => ''URLS''); I cannot find anywhere in the code where the $config['icon’] array is defined, and it is not in the database’s config table either? From Didactum i have a MiB, but i cant include them. There are a lot of OIDs when i must include them, can you include them in the Observium MIBs list? I send the Didactum MIBs with this Mail. Forcing location based on IP

Hi Guys, I would like to insert location data based on the IP address, but I want to write a script that will auto update this into the DB. We are adding 100s of devices over the next few months, some on them doesn't support SNMP Location (yeah, I know....) We have decided to just override the location in Observium for all systems, even if they support it or not. By the looks of it, the data goes into devices_locations ? Thanks ! Pieter De Wit

Geolocation - API Endpoints missing in MySQL config table

Oh no, not me again!! In my recent post I alluded to an issue I was having with Geolocation. After installing Observium CE v2018.9, I couldn't get Geolocation to work with the default setup, so I changed to Google as I already had an API Key setup for other purposes. However, Geolocation still failed to do anything. After looking in Jira, there seem to be a number of posts on this subject, all closed off with no resolution. For anyone out there that still has an issue with Google Geolocation, then I've found what the problem is. This may also solve the issue for other Geolocation APIs too. By the way, before I get started on the solution, I've opened a new bug in Jira (OBS-3022), so hopefully this will get fixed. So, digging into the PHP code, I finally worked out that the API Endpoint URLs are stored in MySQL "config" table. Except, they weren't, "direct_url" and "reverse_url" were missing from the "config" table. I would think that if you select Google as the API provider in the GUI, that the "config" table should be populated with the correct URLs. Nothing in any documentation states that config.php needs anything added manually to cause MySQL to be populated. There may actually be an easier way to achieve this by entering values in config.php, however I've only been digging around in the PHP code for less than 2 days and I haven't fully got my head around how Observium does things yet. So my solution involves getting your hands dirty with MySQL / SQL. To fix the problem manually for Google and potentially other API providers, do the following:- 1. SSH to your Observium host or login to the CLI if you're local. 2. I'm a bit naughty I tend to do everything in a "root" shell, so if you login as non-root you'll probably need to su or sudo to user observium or the owner of the MySQL database first. 3. Connect to MySQL using - mysql observium (don't include the " - ", that just to separate the description from the command) 4. Check the current contents of "config" table - select * from config; (for those of you unfamiliar with SQL the ";" is absolutely required) 5. For the Google Geolocation APIs to work there should be two entries as below:- | geocoding|direct_url | s:49:"https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/json"; | | geocoding|reverse_url | s:49:"https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/json"; | 6. If these are missing or different, then Google API will fail. At this point you either need to insert/update the Google API Endpoint URLs in the table or URLs that are appropriate to the API you want to use. 7. If missing, to enter for Google, do the following in MySQL. You can copy and paste, both lines are required:- insert into config (config_key,config_value) values ('geocoding|direct_url','s:49:"https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/json";'); insert into config (config_key,config_value) values ('geocoding|reverse_url','s:49:"https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/json";'); 8. If entries are there, but wrong urls, do:- update config set config_value = 's:49:"https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/json"' where config_key = 'geocoding|direct_url' or config_key = 'geocoding|reverse_url'; 9. To enter different URLs you will likely have to change the s:49 value at the beginning. The value 49 is the count of characters in the URL between the double quotes, do not include the double quotes in the count. 10. If the URLs for the Geolocation API you want to use are different for direct and reverse lookups, then you will need a slightly different update statement in step 8. 11. I'm not going to tell you how to delete the entries, as this is a bit dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. So you either know anyway or go read up about MySQL and practice on a dummy table first. In any case there should be no reason to delete anything, unless the table is really in a mess. 12. To close MySQL CLI, enter quit or exit or press CTRL-C. 13. Lastly, don't panic if things don't seem to work immediately, for some reason it seemed to take a while for poller.php to start using the new config and this wasn't just the 5 minute delay of the crontab timings. 14. I actually purged all records from the "devices_locations" table to force all locations to be regenerated, but this is not a good idea if you've added manual lat/long coordinates. If your SNMP sysLocation cannot be converted by the Geolocation API and you've purged the locations table, all your "flags" will end up at the default lat/long, assuming you've configured one. System Uptime (sysUpTime) OID incorrect for some systems

I'm observing a problem with some systems being reported as having rebooted at odd times, which are completely unrelated to reality. The GUI claims the system uptime is derived from the OID sysUpTime, however I can't find this OID in any MIB, maybe an internal label in Observium? In actuality Observium seems to be using the 1st OID below, but as can be seen from the 2nd OID the two seem totally unrelated. In the case of this particular system, the 2nd OID value is when it was rebooted, the 1st one seems to have no correlation to the reboot time. PDU current alert problem

Hi all, I am on the latest 9906 version. I have an alarm witch check the PDU's load. The aim is if the load is over 7 (amper) and the bank name is not "Bank total" i would like to get an alarm. Alert Email Wont Change

Good day, When we started using email alerts we had a very simple config. We had the lines for setting default in config.php commented out. And the setting in the webUI for use default on alerts set. So all alerts would go to: alerts(a)mycompany.com. Recently I have been working on updating our environment so that different devices have different contact emails so we can start bugging the device owners more specifically. I have the setting for use default turned off on the webUI. After multiple attempts I am still not able to get emails to follow the syscontact. I even added a new email address to the default email setting in the webUI and it STILL refuses to send to that new email. Is there a place someone else (I did not set the server up) could of hard coded that email? Thank you, Scott Connary

Can anyone see an error in my config.php file

I have Active Directory authentication working for users in the Level = 10 group, but no one in the Level=5 can login. I am trying to create an admin group and a readonly group "basically". All user accounts are in the same OU.
