Traffic accounting not showing previous period

Questions about Observium Enterprise Support

Hi, I’ve been trying to find more detailed info about Observium Enterprise Support, does anyone here has such an agreement and can share the details? All I can find on the web page says: “Included Enterprise-grade email & live support: Yes, 10 hours” So I take it that means that up to 10 hours of live support is included, what will be the cost per hour for support after those 10 hours? I cannot find any definition of what live support is, I would guess that it means some sort of online meeting with screen sharing but it would good to have it in writing so we know what to expect. Is there any SLA for response time for new support tickets, for example within 4 hours or Next Business day? Thanks in advance. EqualLogics Volume Monitoring

Good Afternoon, I have been setting up Observium, which I am relatively new to, and am not sure how to monitor the volumes of the EqualLogic Storage Array, Observium has detected it and provided sensors for the Physical Disk, fan, Controllers, and so on but no volumes are picked up. According to the following link, there are MIBs for this. https://mibs.observium.org/mib/EQLVOLUME-MIB/ If I SNMPWALK the OID's then I get the expected data, would it be possible for someone to advise how I may go about getting this data to be shown in Observium itself? WMI monitoring

Team, i’ve been trying to add my servers with WMI with no success. Hi Team, we are trying to monitor the above device. This works well. Observium can even monitor the GPON PON interfaces eg: gpon-olt1/1. The problem we are having is trying the monitor the ONU devices on site at a client. We use Raisecom ONU's. There are currently mib files available but we noticed that the mib files are empty. So it would seem that Observium cant monitor the bandwidth of the onu's behind the splitter that is connected to the pon interface. Is this something we can manually do from our side? if we have a look at the mib files in /opt/observium/mib/raisecom and vi into the mib file, it is populated. Teams webhook debugging

Dear members, After the great help with the dashboard I went of to the next part in automating, which is for us alerting through Teams. Hopefully you can help me as quickly with this as the last time. We want to use Teams Webhook function to create an alert message, which holds a couple of components. I have configured the webhook within MS Teams and setup the link with the Observium contacts. Created a alert which triggers and mentions the notification of contacts, but nothing happens within MS Teams. The problem can be with a couple of things, so I wanted to start with logging with Observium. This can probably show me if the firewall blocks, if the Webhook link was a bad URL, etc. Where can I find a debugging log of the notification actions, so I can start debugging? Last week I upgraded a server to Observium 23.10.13043 (stable) In Polling information I had a huge increase in system polling, (See attached images.) I backed out the upgrade and tried it again a few days later, when I had more time to investigate. Add sensor data to dashboard

Obtaining good thresholds for monitoring SFP light levels

We would like to alert if an SFP's received light level is too low. The light level sensor data is present and linked with a specific port so we can adjust the alert checkers based on attributes of the linked port. What we haven't figured out how to do is get appropriate thresholds for alerting for each SFP. The SFPs define warning and alarm thresholds which are readable on the devices containing the SFPs but that data doesn't make it into Observium for most of our monitored devices as far as we can tell. Similar SFPs usually have similar thresholds so grouping by SFP vendor and part number then creating a check for each set of SFPs with manually extracted and entered thresholds could be acceptable. Observium does show the SFP vendor and part number on the device overview and inventory pages along with which port contains the SFP but there doesn't seem to be a way to reference this data when creating port or sensor groups or alert checkers. There are also the automatically generated or manually set thresholds for sensors inside Observium itself. The automatically generated thresholds are often missing and we are not aware of a way to ensure they are present or reasonable. Manually set thresholds could work if there was a way to set and audit those thresholds in an automated fashion. We don't see a way to use the API to do this though (we're using the subscription edition). Are there recommendations on how to achieve this? Is this a solved problem and we're running into a bug? device_rebooted metric is now NULL instead of 1

We have an alert checker using the device_rebooted metric to monitor for reboots. The metric used to read as 1 when a reboot was detected as is documented <https://docs.observium.org/entities/#device>. After updating to the latest stable revision (r13020) from r12520 the metric now reads as NULL immediately after a reboot. Is this change in behavior intended? Corwin

Hi I get new recovery messages for my pandacom devices (pandacom-sc) all the time. Observium does not show any alerts. For a device that has not reported any event at all since October 5, Observium shows hundreds of recoveries today alone. Any tips on how to debug this would be greatly appreciated. Andre

CustomOID Draw Error

Good Morning, We're having trouble with observium and "Custom OID" SNMP retrieval. The Huawei (S6730 V200R019C00SPC500) monitors portspeed and other. However, we are trying to get some Custom OID for hwAvgDuty5min refelecting the Average 5 Min CPU usage. Hi, after several years of using Observium, it just occurred to me recently that I am not sure how to read the traffic graphs. For example, I always thought that above "0" on the horizontal axis was transmit and below was receive. But as I look closer, that cannot be. Also, the colors on the graph do not seem to line up with the legend...for example in this graph, I see 4 colors, light/dark green and light/dark purple. But the legend seems to have the same color for g0/0/0 as g0. I guess my questions are: How are transmits and receives represented on the traffic graphs? Why are the colors in the graph not lining up with the legend? Unable to send Telegram notifications

General Question - Raritan PDUs

I'm curious if anyone on the listserv is using a Raritan monitored-per-port PDU? If so, would you be willing to share your experience monitoring it with Observium? We're looking at buying some monitored + switched per-port models, and I want to make sure we can graph each port individually like we can with other vendors. Got a custom OID setup and graphing for a single device, nothing is showing up in the graphs but snmpget verifies the OID is correct. I think the text OID might be incorrect. Is there a debug log for this somewhere? This is the Professional edition. Thanks

Need help on migration

Hi all, Been using Observium for many years and it's been great. But finally trying to migrate it to a new server running Ubuntu 22 (from Ubuntu 14) and it's been a struggle. I've followed these steps (https://docs.observium.org/server-migration/) but I'm not a Ubuntu / MySQL tech. I built a new Ubuntu server, installed Observium with the script and was able to login. Now, after I restore the rrd files and MySQL DB, I can't login to the web interface. I setup debug and got this below. I tried adding a new user with adduser.php and it looks like it worked, but can't login still. Thanks! error on "Applications" in device settings

I'm running 23.8.12912 (2nd August 2023), svn revision 12959 on Debian 12. This is the subscription version. When I go to edit a device and then the "Applications" tab I get an error of "Oops! The device is being added and recognised as an APC PDU, but there are no power readings being recorded. i have added an old model APC AP7854 B2 to observium and its works perfectly, i can see the power readings. i am running obversium CE 23.1.12493.

How to filter only fibre network ports in an alert for link down?

Hi, I want to create an alert for network ports that are down, but only associate the alert with fibre ports in our network infrastructure. I didn't find something like "ifPortType = fibre" or similar i can use. I could go with the interface speed but there could also be 1GBit fibre ports. How can i solve this? APC Smart-UPS SRT 6000 Alerting

Been working on getting this configured and my head around this alert. I've got it working to alert me of going on battery now, and if the batteries are marked as bad. This is specifically tested with an APC Smart-UPS SRT 6000, SKU: SRT6KXLT. Adam, I hear what you are saying about udp flooding...there are routers (no filters) in between but no firewalls. i don't see any indication in the logs that there are udp flooding issues...also, why only every couple of months? Why not every night? Graphs not collecting data after a route reboot

After having a Cisco ASR9001 router reboot over the weekend, some graphs are no longer displaying data and new graphs have been created. Some graphs like processors, memory, etc. are populating correctly, while others like traffic and ports are empty. This router has been in observium for years. The only thing that changed was a reboot over the weekend due to a power issue. No upgrades, changes, etc. In some cases, the "old" graph for an interface is showing nothing, but a new graph for that interface seems to have been automatically created and is now showing data. Is there any way to fix this? I could probably delete the device completely and re-add it, but I hate to loose all of the historical data from it. Frontpage custom mini graphs

Unable to send notifications.

Hi Tam, We are facing notification related issue. We have created a port up/down alert in observium. It will be sending some switches port status only. Other switches will be showing in status as an unknown. But when we are seeing switch will be showing up & Realtime traffic also showing continuous. Please help us to resolve this issue. APP Polling on port 36602 stopped

Hello Since 2 days the APP polling at port 36602 doesn't work anymore. No device is working. I tried to telneting the target over cli and it gaves answer on 36602. Tcpdumping on a target there are not requests coming from observium. We are using Revision 23.7.12902. Does anyone else having also some troubles? Regards Walter

Netbotz Temperature Units

I just installed a new APC Netbotz 250 and I have configured its web interface to be in Fahrenheit but when I imported it into Observium the units are celsius. The weird thing is if I hover over the temperature it shows correctly in fahrenheit. observium misidentifying Microsoft Server 2022 Standard for Datacenter

Update, I looked closer and Observium is doing this for other versions of Microsoft Server, not just 2022. For example, I have a bunch of 2012r2 servers that I have checked and are Standard. They are getting marked as Datacenter. Hi, I just noticed that some of my 2022 servers are listed as Datacenter Edition. When I go to those servers and look at "about pc" they list as Standard Edition(as they should be). Can you please review your OS ident for Microsoft server 2022 Thanks Tony

Traffic collection on the vlan interface

My HPE/3Com devices (7510, 5510, 5520, 4800) show graphs of vlan interfaces but the graph is always empty with no data. On physical interfaces collected normally. Is there any configuration that I need/can do to get the values of the vlan interfaces? Thanks. --

alert checker for a ping probe

Overriding Alert Transport Parameters

Is it possible to override the alert transport parameters? In particular, I want to include the ENTITY_DESCRIPTION into the summary field for Pagerduty. When I put in this line into the config.php $config['transports']['pagerduty']['notification']['request_params']['payload']['summary'] = 'ALERT: [%DEVICE_HOSTNAME%] [%ENTITY_NAME%] [%ENTITY_DESCRIPTION%] %ALERT_MESSAGE%'; I can see it in the Global Settings | Changed Dump page, but the value doesn't update in the Global Settings | Full Dump. So this seems to indicate that Observium is initializing these values after the config has been read in. Is this the case? Is there a user configurable way to change the title of the alerts? I would like to know what modifications was added in the last upgrade, cause our plugin - PHP Weathermap stopped to work, i would like to fix it, so i need some information what was done. Was anything done regarding PHP versions ? What PHP version is currently recommended by Observium ? We are needing to move our current Observium instance to an Nginx instance, but I am having a extremely difficult time getting it set up. I can get to the login page and we can all login, but after that, we're not able to access any of the other pages. I know the htaccess file in the html folder has to be converted to nginx supported format, which I have done, but still no luck. Added to the complication is that we are having to run this on a machine running php7.4-fpm. Is there any guidance on getting Observium running on a Debian 11 instance using Nginx and PHP7.4-FPM? Hello guys, We have been using Observium for some years now. Updating the OS weekly (Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS) and Observium is at 12763 Does a weekly svn up and ./discovery.php -u Last week our svn stopped completing.....stalled without error messages. Some days later it's the same. We did a svn checkout at another directory, and it completed nicely. Our next STABLE merge will permanently break compatibility with PHP versions below 7.1.x. Our official minimum is 7.2 (though we strongly recommend 7.4 or 8.1). Please make sure you're compatible before you next update! :) We're not yet sure when our minimum will switch to 8.1, but if you can, we'd recommend upgrading to that. Upgrading on most distributions from the past 8 or so years is not too difficult, but if you're on very old distributions, we might recommend upgrading the entire distro. I just ran a svn update and that went fine then I did a discovery.php -u and get this error: PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '=' in /opt/observium/includes/observium.inc.php on line 413 I also can't bring up the web page anymore. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04.6 & PHP 5.5.9. I know those are older, just haven't had time to update it. Was hoping to just update Observium. Thanks, Anthony

Has anyone else noticed that FortiGate IPsec tunnels are now missing from the PHP Weathermap search box? We've been monitoring a number of tunnels for a while but when I came to update the weather map to keep an eye on some new tunnels, they don't appear in the PHP Weathermap editor, although the tunnels can be found by examining the ports within Observium. I've got some MikroTik routers that under Statuses shows the Primary and Backup power supplies. Having a hard time trying to figure out how to get alerts for these to be sent. These are type of sensor I am pretty sure but what to match on? Is best way to match on MIBObject or description of some sort? I have tried a few things and can't seem to get the alerts to match. BGP Routing summaries failing

Hi! One of our guys just noticed that the BGP page is no longer rendering. I cannot confirm when it occurred (currently at rev 12695). All other pages are fine, only the four Routing->BGP* pages all seem to fail. OSPF/CEF are fine, as are all other pages as far as I can see. Alerting if LAG member drops?

I'm looking at an easy way to send an alert if a LAG member drops. Running subscription Observium 22.12.12421 and talking a Juniper EX4500 switch. My thought was to have a global check that looked for ifType = ieee8023adLag and then if there was some way members changed, but I don't see a way to detect/check for this. I don't think Observium has any graphing on the LAG port members state. BTW, this would be a great thing to add to have viability into LAG members at the ae level. Perhaps checking if ifHighSpeed goes down? Other than putting up check on the underlying interfaces manually, does anyone have an idea on this? Windows OS upgrade / broke connection

Good morning, We have 2 Windows servers that we upgraded from Windows 2012 to Windows 2019. Originally, I had both connected to Observium and was monitoring them, but since the upgrade, Observium is unable to connect to them and I do not know why. On the first one, I even removed it entirely from Observium but now cannot even re-add it. SNMP is running on both systems and settings are the same as what is on another Windows 2019 server that is working correctly, so I am really confused. Ideas or suggestions are welcome! Observium stopped firing alerts to contacts

Hi all, I am having an issues where suddenly observium has stopped sending alerts to contacts. I have had PagerDuty up and running for almost a year and suddenly today we had a device go down and pager duty didn’t fire an alarm. As you can see below the device alarmed but there is not alert send message or the recovery. [cid:image007.png@01D94138.0CF0EC30] I have the device grouped in a group aptly named Access Switch. Bug report: multiple devices API call breaks when filtering fields

The multiple devices API call combined with field filtering fails for us in the latest stable release, revision 12520 from 2023-02-08. The API call responds with an HTTP 200 but the data contained in the response is incomplete. It worked when we were on revision 12342 from 2022-10-24. It still works if no filtering is requested. After experimenting further and looking at the code we found that the multiple devices API call can successfully be combined with filtering only if device_id is one of the requested fields. We suspect this broke in revision 12452. Hi, We are using observium over a centos 7 (php 7.0.33), recently we are update our observium to 23.2.12520 (svn update) and we have a something problems on tables or alerts. Hi Some unfortunate soul enabled BGP debugging on a device and then forgot all about it. I'm now trying to delete 76 million records from the syslog database.. Is there a way to ignore syslog messages with priority 7 in the syslog import in Observium? It'll probably happen again someday. Problems with observium 22.12.12421

Hi, We are using observium 22.12.12421(stable) over a centos 7 (php 7.0.33), but we have a something problems on tables or alerts. First: on device properties -> ports, the items (vlan and physical interfaces) are showit order by ifIndex not port name or description, screenshot a Aruba Procurve 2530 [image: image.png] Second: in same table, does not showing all ports. that mean on many devices does not show port 1 or other port, but in the summary of ports detail the same port are show correctly. this do not allow to enable notifications on the port. On referent to first issue (may be): some alerts warning about a port down, but really port down does not exist or other port is down. we must update version? -- Saluda cordialmente

Hi to all, I am currently trying to integrate a "Nokia 1830 PSS" device in our lab, but unfortunately the discovery process always stops with an error that I cannot currently decode. If u stay on top of Ubuntu lts releases you can directly upgrade the box from 16.04 to 18.04 to 20.04 to 22.04 with do-release-upgrade so observium would stay installed and should just work with the new packages, however I dont know if it will work with 16.04 to 18.04 currently as 16.04 is now so out of date. Port Group aggregate graphs refresh

Hi all, I have a question (or maybe a feature request). Can I automatically refresh aggregated graphs based on Port Group? Let's say I have a Port Group based on ifAlias regexp. I can manually create an aggregated graph of it - bits, broadcasts, or discards. Then use created graph in the dashboard. The problem is a number of items in Port Group are changing over time, and I need to refresh these aggregated graphs manually. That means performing these steps 1) Ports -> Groups -> <My group name> 2) Aggregate Graphs -> Bits 3) Click on graph -> Add to the Dashboard 4) Repeat for all Aggregated graphs (Bits, Broadcasts, Multicasts, Discards) 5) delete old Aggregated graphs from the dashboard 6) position newly added graphs (with the actual number of ports) It would be very handful to have a script refreshing aggregated graphs automatically. Error "Creation Failed" when Adding Port Groups

Goal: Attempting to make “aggregate” graphs by calculating port bandwidth from multiple devices. For example, a graph that shows the total bandwidth of IP transit or IXP Peering ports that are not in LAG groups on Cisco gear. Problem Statement: When creating a “Group” of ports I get an error in red that says “Creation Failed: Unknown action requested.” Problem Description: 1. Click “Create New Group” in the GUI 2. Select Entity Type “Port” 3. Give group name of “TestGroup1” 4. Select “Device” from the dropdown, default to “in” and select a Cisco router in the dropdown that is already present and working in Observium 5. Click “Add rule” select “AND” choose “Port ifIndex” “equals” enter in the field the ifindex a. I’ve also tried adding just one or even multiple rules with “OR’s” results in this message b. I’ve also tried adding the port with “Port ID”, “Port ifDescr”, “Port ifName” and others all result in this failure message c. I’m getting the port_id, ifindex, ifName, etc from the “Data” tab when viewing a Port of the Cisco in Observium 6. Click the bottom right, green “Add Group” and receive the error message: “Creation Failed: Unknown action requested.” Can someone direct me to how to make such graphs? And/or explain what I might be doing wrong that I cannot create Port Groups? Still cannot log onto the web console

Hi Adam, A long time ago, I sent an email saying I could not log onto the Observium website. It appears to be still working when I look at the log file which is HUGE, 1781351488 in size. I was looking at the housekeeping option but when I was poking around in the terminal, I see there is cron.daily, cron.weekly, cron.monthly. no cron.d How can I run this on the fly to clean up that file? I could not figure that out. my Linux is amateur at best. I can navigate around, and edit files, but no coding experience. Please help.. I have made many changes to our network and I need to ger this so we can log in and I need to update the devices. Thank you! Forigate with virtual interfaces only

Hi all, I have a short question: Does each device's main "traffic graph" (aggregated traffic in the overview) only show physical interfaces? Today I installed FG-200F with all interfaces as LAG (LAN and WAN is the LAG interface of 2 physical interfaces). Unfortunately, I cannot see traffic from LAG interfaces counted in total traffic. The main graph looks like traffic is aggregated per physical interface only. Any solution for this, please? BTW - Fortigate is not showing physical interfaces when they are part of LAG. Syslog host matching with multiple devices and 1 public IP

Hi, We have recently started using the syslog part of Observium and for the most part it works well where we have multiple public IP's logs are coming from or for places where we have VPN's and can reach devices on their local IP's. We are running into a problem however when we have multiple devices pushing their syslog's to us over a WAN link and they come from the same public IP. We're using the %fromhost% variable in the configuration and all logs seem to end up with the first device that we have set in /etc/hosts to match the public IP. We've tried changing the %fromhost% to %hostname% instead thinking it would use the hostname within the log entry but unfortunately that didn't work either. I've had a look at the documentation on how to do manual matching but I don't think that would help here either as it's only going to match the public IP. Has anyone come up against this before and know if there is a way to resolve it or will I need to create VPN's to each of those sites so we can push the logs over their private IP's instead?

Values keep flapping

Understanding device availability graph

Good Morning, I am dealing with IT who has no understanding about networks, they have looked at a particular graph on Observium being the device availability and blaming that the issue is the switch based on what they see on the graph. Hello Community, Was there anyone who had an issue and could give me advice on how to work around my case described in the attached file ? Briefly: I set an alert checker, it checks the port state "ifOperStatus equals down" wait delay time and sends me the message. The port's operational status is constantly down for a long time. Sometimes the checker get NULL for port parameters so as ifOperStatus is NULL the checker defines it is not equals to "down" and sends me "false" message "Clear" The next check time the checker gets real state ifOperStatus equals down and as Alert was cleared last time so checker creates a new alert and sends me notification. Every time the checker gets null I am getting Clear then Alert notification. If I could operate with the previous state at the checker condition rule I would be set to create an alert only if the previous state was "up" AND the state for now is "down". [image: image.png]

not detecting failed test on cyberpower ups

Hi, I noticed that one of my ups' has failed its selftest on 12/19...however...Observium is reporting a successful test (but from the previous week 12/12). Our team handles requests with a ticket system. When a device does not respond... an alert is sent by email... then when the device starts working again a new email is sent with the subject recovery. Now our boss needs a new ticket to be generated only when a device doesn't respond, not when it works again. ¿it is possible? -- Saluda cordialmente

Hellow We have some devices added to monitoring, but this devices aren't discovery as network device (showed as generic -> type other). We can solved this issue deleting the device and adding again. Minimum OID view on Cisco CPE to be pollable by Observium?

Hi, Short of trial-and-error, how can we find the minimum set of OIDs required for Observium to be willing to detect an older Cisco router (e.g. 8xx, 18xx) and add it, so that interfaces can be polled? I already know that if we enable access to ifTable only, Observium doesn't want to play ball and won't add the device. I don't mind reading the source if I have a clue what & where to look for, but I haven't yet found anything promising. Hello, I have configured one of our routers only to allow SNMP access to .1.3.6.1.2.1.2 oid using the snmp-server view command, but Observium will not add the device. However, if an SNMP object name is used instead eg *cisco*, the device is successfully polled. Is there a way of just polling the above oid in Observium? Kind regards Mati

always show table footer

Hi, I noticed that the table footer is not shown if less than 100 objects are displayed. Can it be configured so that the number of objects is always displayed? I often filter by firmware version, etc. and it would be helpful to have the number displayed. Best regards Helge

SNMP returning too much data

I am trying to graph the number of GPS satellites my receiver is seeing, however, what is returned via SNMP has more information than what I need. This is from the documentation. I just want to strip the first integer as the answer. For one satellite with vehicle number 16: 1,16,C,-158 <-- I need the "1" For six satellites: 6,12,C,-156,14,C,-155,8,T,-162,24,C,-158,18,C,161,6,C,-160 <-- I need the "6" Can Observium do this? "reset limits" doesn't work with one switch

Hi everyone, I have a problem with the "reset limits" function: On a device with many sensors (305) I can't recalculate the limits using "reset limits" in the device-preferences. Normally a note with the message appears: "Reset limits for Current sensor foo"; they will be recalculated on the next discovery run." But with this device this message does not appear. Of course I don't know if it has to do with the number of sensors but it is the only device where the problem occurs. Can I reset the limit values directly via the database? Thanks! Helge

Rule not being ignored

One of our servers keeps reporting that its down and then back up a minute later. I've tried to ignore the alert within Observium but that only lasted for less than a day. I even put in a date to ignore the alert until 2026. That lasted for a couple of days. But we are once again getting bombarded with these alerts. I don't want to disable the alert since we have over 30 systems registered. Ideas or suggestions? mitel monitoring?

I am looking to monitor a variety of Mitel telephony devices. I've added one and auto discovered it. I did note that the MIBs I could download from the device are precisely the same ones already located in /opt/observium/mibs/mitel When auto discovery occurs, there is no mention of anything Mitel in the device. Is there something I have to do to push observium to enable Mitel stuff?

We replaced our edge routers over the weekend and I updated the list of port id's in $config['frontpage']['custom_traffic']['ids'] with the new ones from the new routers; however, the custom graph on the front page hasn't changed and still lists the old interfaces (on the now shut-down routers). Graph Gaps and Scaling questions

list, I have been working all angles to scale my observium CE instance running well but seem to be failing. By failing I am referring to the classic gaps in graphs for all my devices. I am running on esxi with 16 cores @ 2.40GHz, 16G of ram, SSD SAS Raid and continue to have gaps. Most recently I have pushed sql to its own instance in hopes of working around potential IO issues but that didnt help. What I do see is that my ram use is very high, I am guessing from the discovery process twice a day. When my ram use is lower throughout the day, I have no gaps. I am monitoring 6000ports on 190 devices. Should I be using north of 16G of ram in my env? I am happy to add more but all my reading indicates that observium is not RAM intense. My last attempt will be to move the RRDs to a ram disk but my RRDs are almost 16G at this time which I am guessing is part of the problem. Maybe it is time to clean house. Any insight would be appreciated. db

APC UPS Monitoring

One of the status indicators on APC UPS's is "Diagnostic Results." It is shown as: Diagnostics Results (last 2022-10-10) ok I am looking to set up an alert where if the last diag date is more than N days ago, alert me. But since the date is somehow wrapped into the status name, rather than the status result, I am not sure how to do this. Any pointers?

Restarting ‘httpd’ (showing ‘active (running)’) and reboot the server doesn’t help. Any suggestions how we can fix it or troubleshoot further? Thanks. - Gordon

Weird results from stacked graph.

Hello, We have been seeing some results in our stacked graphs that do not appear to make sense. Initially we thought this was because the maximum values for the two values occurred at different points in time. That cannot be the whole issue because even if you take the sum of every pair of numbers the maximum aggregate must at least equal the maximum value of one of the two series. This graph shows the problem: How can we have a maximum value of 97.4M but an aggregate maximum of 55.7M? It seems that maximum aggregate should also at least be 97.4M. What’s happening here? Alerter frequency

Greetings, I have been setting up Observium for a client for the last few months and I have been loving it. Amazingly flexible and reliable. I am quite pleased. I am running 22.8.12241, Subscription. I know that Observium does not support SNMP Traps and understand why. So, I have set up syslog on the services to push events and they are caught by Observium. This works fine. I have now also created syslog alerts and this works fine too. My issue is the delay from when the syslog comes to the server, and the alert goes out. I found this old mailing list entry: https://lists.observium.org/hyperkitty/list/observium@lists.observium.org/m… Adam's reply was: "We have to wait for a cron job to be run to send the alerts, because we can't do it in the syslog processing script. Iirc you can cron alerter.php to do it more frequently!" This is an acceptable solution to me, but I have a couple question: 1. Is there risk with how often this is run? If I cron'ed this for every minute, is there a risk of some sort of collision with the 5 minute poller? 1. Is it possible, as a feature request, to call alerter.php -h from syslog.php when an entry comes in? While I think Observium is an excellent piece of software, I wish it had just a little more ability to handle real-time alerts coming in. There are many situations that occur where an outage or event could be substantially shorter than the poller interval (like, a short UPS power loss), and I would like to have a little better quasi-real time alerting of these events. Temperature sensor question

Good Morning! I hope you're all well. I apologize if the question is inappropriate. I'm developing an IOT module and I use the "ENTITY" MIB for the sensors. I saw that Observium handles this MIB automatically, using the entPhySensorType OID to distinguish the sensor types and it works great, except for the temperature sensor, entPhySensorType value 8. I would like to understand if this has any special reason to adapt my code. APC's universal I/O (UPS temp/humidity sensors) not showing in

Have observium polling various APC ups's (AP9631 NMC cards). Observium correctly polls the battery temperatures, but when adding in probes to the universal I/O ports on the AP9631 (just trying with the temp sensor currently) I do not see the data being plotted on observium. Is this supposed to work? I don't have the humidity sensor currently (was trying to test with the temp sensor first before buying the temp/humidity combined sensors for the units). Would really like to get this data tracked for environmental data logging per rack (have a ups per rack). upgrading older versions

Hello, We have an instance of Observium running on Ubuntu 16.04. I would like to bring this OS somewhat current, say to 20.04 or maybe even 22.04. At the same time, our Observium version on this is 20.1.10233. Would there be an issue upgrading the OS with the current version of Observium running on them? I know a fresh install would be best, but then what is the migration procedure? Are all alerts and configurations moved in the migration (I would assume so, but want to understand this as it is a lot of work to recreate all of this). Is there an issue going in one jump from 20.1.10233 to latest, or should this be done in stages? Should Observium or the OS be dealt with first (concerned about php/mysql versions matching Observium versions, etc)? We are a Pro subscriber if it matters. Thx!

question about alert checker TEST

Hello, I'm using alert checker with quite standard check: ifInOctets_perc ge 90 ifOutOctets_perc ge 90 But sometimes the SNMP returns incorrect value like 134651%, especially in Nexus devices. I would like to prevent that with inserting test value like: ifInOctets_perc le 100. But i'm wondering if it's possible to do this in single rule in Observium that would look like this: (ifInOctets_perc ge 90 and ifInOctets_perc le 100) or (ifOutOctets_perc ge 90 and ifOutOctets_perc le 100) Or i need to create separate rules for both groups ? Hi, on several Stormshield firewalls, I read some issues: * the firewalls are detected as Generic devices, while some time ago they were correctly detected as Stormshield firewalls * some ports report wrong speed: e.g. on 8 gigabit ports same appliance, some appears with 4Mbps, 20Mbps or 1Gbps, even by correcting them in its properties The second one isn't simply a cosmetic issue, because threshold alerts are generated with ordinary traffic.
