Hi Team, I am seeing some issues when I go to php version 8.1 on the server running Observium. It displays `/opt/observium/html/idex.php` in raw format. Everything works fine if I go back to php 7.4. Is php 8.1 not supported yet on observium? Regards Renuka Arya

MySQL IO Wait

Hey list We keep adding devices to Observium, and it seems we're getting close to some tipping point for MySQL performance. Looking at output from "top" we frequently see high iowait: [cid:image001.png@01D89790.EF319B00] Looking at iotop, it seems that MySQL is the aggressor here: [cid:image002.png@01D89790.EF319B00] We figured syslog was the culprit at first, and tried disabling that for a while to see if stuff died down. It did not. Been playing a little with mytop, and even though we have a QPS around 780, it's not possible for me to nail down what queries are hogging the IO on the server. I googled around and did some changes to the InnoDB, and though I saw improvements, they were not as massive as I had hoped. This is what I currently have changed from defaults: [mysqld] # This is a little too much for the installed 8G in the machine and will be adjusted at a later time. Just trying stuff out now. innodb_buffer_pool_size=6G # We have fast SSD drives on vSAN innodb_io_capacity=1000 # Don't flush file write so often, be more relaxed. innodb-flush-method=O_DIRECT_NO_FSYNC So I'm kind of stumped here. It's not killing Observium totally just yet, but we have experienced some outages this week and will probably see more as we keep adding devices. Any recommendations will be much appreciated. Alert checker failing

Hi list Why does this fail: [cid:image001.png@01D8A68F.E52D3930] I tried with both "online" and "onLine", but saw no difference. I tried deleting and recreating the check to make sure nothing was stuck somewhere. It went straight to failed on the first poll. I'm trying to monitor a bunch of UPS devices. They are from diffent vendors, and some reports "normal", other reports "onLine". The ones reporting "normal" works fine, but the ones reporting "onLine" all fails. Mailing list migration

Hi Guys, We've migrated the list to a new setup running Mailman 3. It all seems to work ok, and I've important the historical archives which are now available at https://lists.observium.org/hyperkitty/list/observium@lists.observium.org/ It will likely be necessary to use the password recovery process for the Mailman account in order to access the archives and control the settings of your subscription. It might have migrated existing passwords from the old system, but who knows, Mailman 2 was ancient! This doubles as a test post! :D Thanks, adam.

Hi Everyone, Need some advice. I'm running Observium Observium Community Edition 20.9.10731 on Debian 8.4 and I want to move this to a new server. I tried to update to the latest community edition but when I ran discovery it could not find any modules so I backed out of the upgrade. Can I build a new server, install the latest community then move the database over or do I need to install same versions of Observium on both servers ? IPv6 total graphs

Hello, I'm using the Port description Parsing to aggregate graphs in the section "Transit" and "Core". It's very useful so I can know the total traffic that is forwarded on my network. On all devices I have also the IPv6 graphs inside the device interface. Question1) I would like to see the total traffic differentiated by ipv4/ipv6 on the same way of tab "Transit/Core". I want to know the total traffic IPv6 that is forwarded globally or by transits. Question 2) The graph "Device total traffic in bits/sec." report the total traffic I immagine. Is is possible to have that total traffic of the device differentiated by ipv4/ipv6? Thanks Matteo

I'm not sure if this is the correct manner, but I'm looking for some kind of support. We are using Observium with ops genie, and around March of this year our Alerts are way less than normal. We'd get 10-25 a day, no almost nothing. I have 0 background in any database knowledge, and can really only fumble my way through Linux commands.

Windows Services

Hi Everyone, I'm on an old build of the community edition, 20.9.10731 (22nd September 2020). Noted in the demo on the website Observium can monitor windows services on windows servers. If I upgrade to the latest community edition does that come with the ability to monitor windows services or do I need to go to the paid edition ? if so can I use an alert checker to send an email if a specific windows service changes its status from running to anything other than running ? Hello, I was wondering if it is possible to configure observium with several dashboards and after every 15 seconds have the dashboard change to a different configuration? So, for example, on Dashboard 1 i have all the bandwidth graphs and on Dashboard 2 all the alerts and event logs, the dashboard will automatically change every 15 seconds or so... Thanks in advance

Distributed Polling

Are many people using Distributed Polling? We are just playing around with it now. How many devices can you typically poll per thread in under 5 minutes? Some of this is also a function of how much latency you have between your pollers and your devices and how "slow" your devices are. But we are having to throw a lot threads (>200) at this to ensure we get our 1200+ devices polling under 5 minutes. The RRD and DB backends are not the bottleneck, it is purely the latency of the SNMP polling we need to overcome. The longest devices take between 150-200s depending on what else is hitting it at the time (e.g discovery + poller). So we need a fair number threads just to get these out of the way. I was wondering if sorting the most expensive devices first could help avoid getting two slow devices back to back. Also, it would be nice to have the system use a queue to schedule the work rather than a hard partition. This avoids the problem of losing 1/Nth of your devices when you lose a poller. With a queue you would just lose 1/Nth of the threads. If you had enough spare capacity you could ride through the downtime of a single poller. Cheer Milton

Hello, The new Network Traffic Map did work the other day - great. Yesterday it stopped working in our installation (22.6.12145) with an error 500. I was wondering if it's our installation that's the problem, or an issue with Observium code ? I have tried it as Gauce and also as Counter but always gives Draw Errors and not values. Do you have any idea how to do this? Custom OIDS and billing

Hello, We are using the Juniper DCU MIB to track member traffic for billing purposes. We have two upstream transit providers and have created custom OID entries for each member and transit provider for IPv4 and IPv6. The end result is four custom OIDs per member. Ideally we would like to use the traffic accounting module and assign the four custom OID graphs to one bill but can’t figure out how. Is there a way to combine the four OIDs into a single stacked graph so we can see the aggregate of all traffic to both providers? Is there an alternative way to do this short of doing it manually with rrd? Lastly, is there any planned support for the Juniper DCU MIB so we can use this to monitor members transit traffic? Hi - I had a happy persona/home Observium CE 19.x install on Debian (testing) running w/MySQL 5.5 and PHP 7.0 that I finally decided to upgrade to MariaDB 10.6 / PHP 8.1 and am running into some issues. 1) I did the PHP 8.1 upgrade first without touching anything else. Helo, We are using the Juniper DCU MIB to track member traffic for billing purposes. We have two upstream service providers and have created custom OID entries for each provider for IPv4 and IPv6 and each member. That gives us 4 custom OIDs per member. I was hoping to use the traffic accounting module and assign the 4 custom OID graphs to one bill but can’t figure out how. Alert emails from pollers

Hi A new discovery from our partitioned pollers today: Alert emails are sent out from the poller, not the main Observium instance. We can work around it, but since we have pollers in some pretty firewalled networks, it's going to be an effort. We always thought of pollers as just data collection agents. Can this behavior be changed in the configuration somewhere, or is it just the way it works? Pollers not picking up orders

Hey list I think we discussed this before, but I forget the answer and my searching skills fail me. We have several pollers returning data to a main instance. When we create new devices and tell them to be handled by for example "poller2", we can see that the order to do so is created in the database. But it's never picked up by the poller. Is there a cronjob I need to set up to fix this? Device neighbours map drawing

Hi there, We have been using Observium for many years (Subscription version) Recently the devices neighbours map has been unusable, because it has been drawn in vertical, which makes in extremely small (like 8mm height) Normally it has been drawn in horizontal, and can be used with many neighbours. Unable to email

I had to redo my Observium installation and at this time I'm unable to receive any alerts. I tried testing postfix and that works: sudo echo "This is the body of the email" | mail -s "This is the subject line" userX(a)domain.com When I try it with Observium I get nothing: userX@Observium2:/opt/observium$ ./test_alert.php -a userx(a)domain.com Observium 22.5.12000 Test Alert Notification userX@Observium2: I've Googled this and I found serveral hits to change the PHP file, but I understood that we shouldn't be "tweaking" that file. Hi I am having issue authenticating the members in my group as the error message says that it is unable to get a match of a user in a particular group. Here are some steps I've taken so far: * Changing to $config['auth_ldap_server'] = "server01.domain01.com"; caused an error that LDAP server was unable to bind thus that is why I am using IP address * All my users are already a member of the group that I've specified & the group is also in an OU I've specified in my config.php So, why is Observium unable to get a match of the users even though the specifications are already there? Hi, as the recent 2 questions have shown (ldaps auth and ping only device monitoring) users have the same questions over and over. Currently, this system Observium uses for email lists (imho) is not cutting it. There is no place (that I now of) that we can search for old solutions, the emails don't seem to be archived anywhere. Have you considered switching off this to a discussion board software? I think it would be better for all. Just my 2 cents. tony

I've configured LDAPs certificate in my LDAP server as an .pfx file. How do I allow Observium to read the certificate so as to get authenticated by my LDAP server? 1. Phantom suppressed alerts

I seem to have issues with the alerts where I have quite a few marked as supressed, but when you look at the suppressed alerts, I only see 5, but I cannot see how I can clear these phantom alerts. Hi Is there a log file in Observium for me to troubleshoot when I log in via LDAP? I want to verify the LDAP details I've keyed in my config.php is correct as I am still unable to log in via LDAP as per Tony's advice on LDAPS. Please advise if I am missing out any additional steps / packages required to as I am still relatively new to configuring LDAP / LDAPS for Observium. Hi A few years ago we were able to pull the Ubiquiti Radio MAC / Serial numbers from the Observium DB. I no longer see any serial numbers listed for Ubiquiti devices if I query the device table in the DB directly, and it’s not shown on the device screen in the Observium interface. When running a manual poller.php run the serial number field is <empty>, Is there something that changed on the Observium or Ubiquiti side or is the a module that I may need to enable? Are you able to successfully execute an LDAP query from the command-line using "ldapsearch" (typically found in the "openldap-clients" package or similar)? I would start there, to prove your Observium server can actually reach your DC and run a query successfully, before trying to enable LDAP in Observium. You can't do a non-TLS LDAP bind on 389 by default, which is why we use 636 and ldaps. Cloud networks monitoring option in Observium

Good morning guys, I want to ask you if there is any development thread which will introduce cloud services monitoring into observium. I don`t mean the classic monitoring way of vhost via SNMP, but over API calls directly from the cloud tools. We are currently transferring our network capabilities from the standard setup to CloudWan and looking for the monitoring options and our vision is to concentrate monitoring features in observium dashboards. Hello, When trying to document events it’s more useful (at least to me) to see that something happened at 01:55 than it is to see it happened 9:23 hours ago. That doesn’t mean it’s not useful to know how long ago an event happened but it seems recently, knowing when the event happened is more important that knowing how long ago that was. Is there any way to disable temporarily or permanently the “relative” times in the event log and syslog? Thanks, Dave.

Sorry if this is an obvious question but I have been playing with this and it does not behave the way I am expecting... under device properties/alerts there is an "ignore until" option as well as a "disable notifications" toggle.... [cid:image003.jpg@01D8530A.33555B80] If I set the "ignore until" to sometime in the future and I (for example) restart the device...I still get alerted. If I toggle the "disable notifications" , I do not get the notifications anymore...however, it stays disabled past the "ignore until" time How is this feature supposed to work? I am looking for a way to put a device in "maintenance mode" so that if I am upgrading etc...no alerts are generated and no notifications are sent.

So, ping only devices are abundant and persistent, they will not be going away. Setting up a probe will get me by, but there are several problems. The first is it seems you need to associate the probe with an existing host...so it looks like the probe is for that host (even though it is not). What happens if I delete the host...will the probes go away? Also, I have not yet seen a notification, but does the notification show the hosts name associated with the probe? If so, that will be confusing to techs who might not be aware they have to read further. What is really needed is the ability to add a device that is ping only and stand alone, not dependent on any other host. Obviously, all the info for that device would be unavailable except ping times but this would be much clearer. I think, given how important ping only devices can be, it should be a priority to get this right. Finally, let me say that I have worked in the past with MRTG and HP Openview and more recently with NagiosXI, PRTG and Shinken. Observium is BY FAR, the best of them. wmi issues, need a syntax change

Hi, I am guessing that wmi polling is not used very much but I do use it and find it handy. If you do use it, you are probably aware that your event logs are filling up with this error: The server-side authentication level policy does not allow the user domain\wmiuser SID (S-1-5-21-99999-3660327915-2769000259-31856) from address 1.1.1.1 to activate DCOM server. Please raise the activation authentication level at least to RPC_C_AUTHN_LEVEL_PKT_INTEGRITY in client application. I am getting 4 eventlog errors every polling interval (5 minutes) on every windows server. This is due to Microsoft enhancing security on wmi. (KB5004442-Manage changes for Windows DCOM Server Security Feature Bypass (CVE-2021-26414) (microsoft.com)<https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/kb5004442-manage-changes-for-wind…>) There is a solution to this, you need to call wmi with pkt integrity enabled (wmic RPC_C_AUTHN_LEVEL_PKT_INTEGRITY support · Issue #41 · greenbone/openvas-smb (github.com)<https://github.com/greenbone/openvas-smb/issues/41>). So, for example wmic --user=domain.local\\user --password= //server.domain.local "select * from Win32_ComputerSystem" - throws the error in the target servers event log...also, this will start failing next year. However wmic --user=domain.local\\user --password= //ncacn_ip_tcp:server.domain.local[sign] "select * from Win32_ComputerSystem" will not throw the error wrapping the target server in ncacn_ip_tcp: and [sign] fixes the issue. So, would it be possible for you to enhance Observium to make the wmi calls this way? Thanks Tony

questions about email alert notification formats

Hi, I have 2 questions about this. First, is it possible to attach a notification format per contact. We are sending out text alert notifications using number(a)vtext.com<mailto:number@vtext.com> and I think the format is too big for vtext.com to accept. Is it possible that on a contact, scale down the notification? Second, is it possible to change the format of the general "recover" email? thanks Tony

Hello, Although I double check every tuning guide from the website, I'm in trouble with my Observium installation. First of all, the size of the network is huge... From the Statistics on about page : - 1023 Devices - 57K Ports - 51K Sensors - 128 GB RRD - 20GB DB I run the latest version of Observium with PHP 7.3 on a Debian 10 physical server. It is a dual Intel Xeon 6248 2.5Ghz (20C/40T) equipped with 3 RAID groups : - RAID1 for the OS - RAID1 for the RRD files and Observium application - RAID5 for the database All the disks are SSD. The number of poller is set to 48 and the whole polling time has an average of 264s and a max of @334s (I just increase the poller to 60 today...). I do housekeeping every week to cut off the event log and other stuff older than 30 days. I also use fast userspace caching with php-apcu For the port discovery, some of ports are ignored like vlans, control plan, stack interface, voice-port, etc... The installation runs like a big diesel machine ... not so fast but very robust. My problem is that it takes more than 30 seconds to get the detail of simple 48 ports switch ... and much more when I try to load a detailed backbone with many more ports. Do you have any suggestion to improve the GUI responsiveness ? Thank you for your time Kind regards Vincent

Trying to not alert on an interface in monitoring mode

Hey all I'm trying to build an alert that will go off in an interface is operationally down but not disabled. A fringe case is a span port where the operational state is "monitoring". It still triggers on these conditions (both are required to be true): [cid:image001.png@01D8405C.2132B5D0] (It says "suppressed" because the previous definition of the alarm was "IfOperStatus notequals up" and we suppressed it at that time) Can anybody help me see through what's wrong in my definition? vlan table cleanup?

We’re noticing that the VLANs page (Ports-->VLANs) is less useful than it could be, because it seems to keep around every VLAN that has ever existed on every device that has ever existed. I also don’t see anything in …/includes/housekeeping/* that would address this. It’s so bad/useless at this point that 1701 records are from devices that don’t even exist anymore (vs. 4409 where the parent device at least still exists, even if the VLAN doesn’t). A similar problem exists in vlans_fdb. Is there some housekeeping mechanism that is supposed to take care of this, that I can go troubleshoot? Or is it just an oversight/omission? And if not, can I just do a “DELETE FROM vlans WHERE NOT EXISTS ( <query on ‘device’> )” (and something similar on vlans_fdb) to clean it up? IPMI discrete unit sensors

Hello, We have several machines with IPMI configured in observium. Some of these machines have had hardware failures, such as power supply or disk failures, and we can see the failure status when polling the machines via ipmitool, but there are no warnings reported by observium. The unit of these sensor values is "discrete". Does observium support this type of sensor, and if so, is it possible to configure observium to warn about failures in these sensors? Regards,

restarting snmp service on windows server flags the server as down in observium

Hi, I have an alert that says if the device_uptime is less than 360, alert that the server was down. I happened to restart the snmp service on several of my servers and was surprised to find the alert triggered. I am guessing that when snmp restarts, the uptime counter goes to zero? Is there any way to get a true read of the uptime? I am trying to alert if the server rebooted within the poling window. thanks Tony

Hello, i have a lot alert checks witch can alert for a sensors, and these are working great. But now i would like to create an alert like this: I would like to receive an alert if the PDU hostname match PDU-*-1, and BANK1 + BANK2 + BANK 3 value greather than 10. So if the summarized BANKs value is greather than 10. So my question is Observium support this alert type where the multiple sensor's summarized value is the condition? Thanks Br Laszlo

Question BGP peers in VRF

Hi I am evaluating Observium for reading the number of received bgp routes on ASR9000 routers. I have successfully discovered one of our testrouters and I can see the bgp peers in the liste. However it only detects the vpnv4/vpnv6 bgp peers. It does not detect the bgp peers inside vrfs. Is there any possibility to do so? Apparently they should be read in CISCO-BGP4-MIB Regards Mihai

Migration to new server

Hi I try today to migrate my installation to newer OS - Ubuntu 20 RRDs transferred ok DB transferred ok, devices all OK But the weirdest thing is that I couldn’t login with any of my logins when I was trying via URL I only was able to login by using the IP. VLANs UI question

I’m using the top-level VLANs view to help identify VLANs we can remove, and it’s remarkably helpful, at least as a starting point. This view identifies that I have, for example, 2 untagged ports on VLAN 6… which is great, but how do I see *which ports* those are? I haven’t been able to find anything I can click on that reveals the port names/numbers, or even which device they’re on. Beyond that, how is it possible to have 2 untagged ports on 0 (zero) devices, in the first place? While we’re at it, in <hostname>/vlan/vlan_id=XYZ/ page, why are the labels “Devices”, “Tagged Ports”, “Untagged Ports” and “MACs” in the banner clickable if they don’t do anything? Help? User device permissions cleared after upgrade?

I can’t say for certain but I recently upgraded from 21.12.11831 (stable) -> 22.2.11898 (stable) and all of our user accounts that had specific device permissions seem to have lost those entries. Is there anything in the upgrade that may have overwritten or otherwise caused those permissions to disappear?

Hi Guys, About 8 hours ago an auto update was applied to a Observium box and following this the CPU graph is gone: This is the only change that I can think of so can someone please confirm this ? A rediscover of the host does “run” the Mikrotik MIB against it but it still fails to find the CPU oids Thanks !

Adam, I finally got this working. I have written up a quick guide to making this work, would it be possible for you to put this in your documentation page for LDAP Authentication? I am sure I will loose it if it is not somewhere obvious Directions for enabling LDAP with TLS when connecting to an LDAP server with a self signed certificate or a CA that the Observium server does not recognize Assumptions: you have already enabled SSL/TLS for ldap on your Microsoft Domain Controller (or other LDAP server) Observium is installed on a Fedora flavor of Linux version 7 or 8 (this might work with Ubuntu but i am not sure the commands are the same) Observium is configured for LDAP AND TLS per the authentication documentation page On the Observium server: yum install php-ldap vim /etc/openldap/ldap.conf make sure these 2 config options are commented out #TLS_CACERTDIR /etc/openldap/certs #TLS_CACERT /etc/openldap/certs/cert.crt Add/Change this config option to either hard or allow TLS_REQCERT hard “hard” means that the LDAP server MUST present a cert and the cert must be trustworthy OR in the trusted cert store (this is the more secure method) “allow” mean that the LDAP server MUST present a cert and the cert can be anything...valid or invalid setting to “hard” is better because it prevents an imposter from stealing the ip address of the LDAP server and intercepting the messages from Observium If you are setting TLS_REQCERT to “hard” then take these additional steps: export the LDAP server cert in b64 format with NO KEY place cert of LDAP server in ‘/etc/pki/ca-trust/source/anchors’ folder run ‘update-ca-trust’ as root Tony From: Adam Armstrong via observium<mailto:observium@observium.org> Sent: Wednesday, February 16, 2022 7:29 PM To: 'Observium'<mailto:observium@observium.org> Cc: Adam Armstrong<mailto:adama@observium.org> Subject: Re: [Observium] LDAP auth to MS AD with TLS Self Signed Cert I’ve never used LDAP, so I’m not really sure how this should be done. Adam, I have the cert for my AD server, as I said, I am pretty familiar with this process as I use ldap often for application authentication….what I am not very familiar with is php. Other apps have config options to set the paths for the certs etc. What I need help with is where (specifically) to put the config so that Observium will use it. I have the certs, I just need the syntax You mentioned putenv…where would I put that? It must be somewhere in Observium? Alert dependency

Hello, Is it possible to set an alert dependency on observium? for example if there are 04 devices on the network: 01 router and 03 cascading switches.. If the router goes down, we do not need the 03 switches sending an alert anymore as they depends on the router. This will save us from flooding alert and make the alerting system more efficient. Hello, we are setting an alert based on device status metric, so if the device status is 0 (down), an alert will be sent to a group of mail destination.. Now we want to adjust the alert sensibility of observium in order to sent the mail if the device is down for 10 mn, in other words, if the device is down then up after 8mn for example, we don't want to be alerted. poller overwrites manual sensor limits

Hi, We’ve disabled service discovery in order to zero in on why custom sensor limits are being overwritten. As far as we can ascertain, it appears that the poller is doing this but we’re not sure when/how since it doesn’t reset on every poll. It’s so transient that we’re finding it very difficult to identify the actual culprit. Can anyone offer tips on how we can debug this further? Thanks, Joey

Hi, Ideas wanted. As a service provider, I want to expose basic up/down status to my consumers, So they can self-discover if a portion of the network in their area is affected. In my case, I have emergency communication systems and I would love to make some of these visible in an up/down fashion to people. A status page or uptime robot basic presentation. Hi, I did not notice it earlier but somehow all graphs stopped on Jan 1st 00:00 ? Doesn't matter for which device I look or at what type of graph. I only updated the OS where Observium is running (was running on an old Ubuntu 16.02 version and is now upgrades to Ubuntu 20.04). But that was done in week 50 (the week of Dec 13th) and after that the graphs still worked. So strange that it exactly stopped at midnight of the new year? Hello I'm using Observium latest version. Most of the grapsh for interfaces are pretty good. But for 2 Huaweis switches S6730, the collected data appears kind of 'saw': Same device, polled with a Cacti server, shows this way: A few 'spikes' but far more smooth graph. Dashboard Map Device Count

Hi I've been having an issue with the number of devices per location not being correct when displayed on the Dashboard Map. A few of our sites have the correct count, but most do not. From the list view everything is ok. The devices accessible and are set to a location that is geolocating to coordinates, but it's like they're not being counted properly. Thanks Tony

Hello, I’ve removed IPV4 address to some monitored Linux host Before the removal, those hosts were correctly monitored. My Observium host is both IPV4 and IPV6 connected. Arista VARP IP addresses not being discovered?

We’ve noticed that although Observium picks up the VRRPv3 virtual IP addresses on our Cisco NX-OS switches, it does not detect or capture the VARP virtual IP addresses on our Arista EOS switches. Is that expected behaviour? If so, what information do you need to change Observium so that it can detect VARP IPs and display them on the appropriate interfaces? If not, what debug output should I be looking at – discovery? Polling? Which section? Hello ! We received two unit of Huawei ETP4860-B1A2 with manager module SNMP, this power converterAC to DC for 48V telecommunications equipments. When we add the equipments in observium , it's show "generical" device. We asked Huawei about thi4e case and Huawei told us if the "current regular mib" had the OIDs for ETP4860. We try to make observium discoveries about the correct type "power" and vendor "huawei" to get the power information, like load, AC entry, baterya load, and so on... We was fight with this equipment more 1 year and can't make running =( We flap the "loss flag" and ask for help for anyone who can help us. syslog issues

Spent hours on this and am at a loss. Got some hosts that won't have syslog show up in the GUI, digging further the DB shows the IP not the hostname for those records, so that makes sense why they are not showing up. Looking at the actual data coming over syslog the devices that work and don't work show the exact same format. Nothing different at all, and identical configs on identical devices. Is there a debug or another log that I am not seeing that would show why these entries are getting inserted into the DB as IP addresses and not being replaced with hostnames? At a loss, any suggestions would be great! Thanks

Ruckus zone director support

is anyone monitoring ruckus zone directors? it looks like it provides a bunch of useful info via snmp but observium is not graphing much other then the bandwidth on the interfaces. main thing i am looking for would be a graph of the number of ap's connected. 1.3.6.1.4.1.25053.1.2.1.1.1.15.1.0 aka online ap number RUCKUS-ZD-SYSTEM-MIB::ruckusZDSystemStatsNumAP.0 = Gauge32: 15 ^ is a oid i found from a script i run against my Nagios to monitor the same stat, just would like a graph also. i am sure there is lots of other useful info also ,eg number of clients connected per wlan, per ap, etc. it looks like you already have the mib file for these installed but i am not sure where i would start customizing the code. i would think i need to make a new OS for ruckus zonedirector different than ruckus aps, and then have that apply these mibs, but i am unsure where i should start. Rando, I followed this KB https://docs.observium.org/device_windows/ and it just worked. The reason I asked the questions is that it is not immediately obvious that it is working or not. The poller.php -m wmi -v proves it is working but also, I realized that if wmi is working, then your Microsoft devices will show a “windows services” tab. Also, I have Observium installed on RHEL 8. There seems to be no wmi package for version 8 (CentOS or RHEL). With cacti everything works well, an even with snmpwalk and snmp v1 I get an answer. How can I add squid to observium ? Help is always welcome. Thanks. For example the "myserver" host in the extract below (part of the result of"/opt/observium/discovery.php -h all -dd") This "myserver" host is discovered as a LLDP neighbor of another host. Then discovery.php tries to connect to "myserver" with snmpget using its IPv6 address. Unable to create web links to Watchdog monitors`

Good afternoon, I am trying to create a web page with links to our Watchdog environment monitors and not having any luck. I am using the same syntax I used with the Observium server I had last year and all I'm getting is a pink rectangle with No Auth at the top and the Date/Time indicators at the bottom. I can copy my links and put them in the address bar of my browser and the temperature graph pops right up. I did add the $config['allow_unauth_graphs'] = 0; line to my config.php file. I've been going over my settings and I can't figure this out. What am I doing wrong? I'm running Observium Professional 21.10.11678. Hosts showing with _gateway

Hi, Ive been chasing this problem for hours and see what is going on, no clue why. I have a host that is in DNS and added to Observium, syslog is not being collected. Digging around more I also see a _gateway device in Observium (I have never added this). This device actually appears to be the one I am having issues with. I removed the device and readded, it polls the device once it looks then the rrds area created as _gateway and not the actual device name, so that's why the GUI is not showing anything I am guessing. In this install the gateway is the same firewall that I am trying to add that is showing up as _gateway. We have no _gateway anywhere in the config and nothing in the local hosts file or DNS. So I am a lost as to what is going on here. Has anyone seen this or have a clue what is going on?? Thanks

Howdy Dev team, Was doing some digging into the /includes/mibs/dell.inc.php and found the section on $mib = 'MIB-Dell-10892'; $config['mibs'][$mib]['enable'] = 1; $config['mibs'][$mib]['identity_num'] = '.1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10892.1'; With a number of sub-items. As Dell have been releasing newer versions of OpenManage and Dell Command|Monitor, they have been migrating away from the 10892 mib, and are now using the 10909 mib. Just did a comparison walk on two different machines with different versions of OM agent, and have the following results: SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.674.10892.1.300.10.1.9.1 = STRING: "Precision WorkStation T3500 " SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.674.10909.1.300.10.1.9.1 = STRING: "Precision T7610" Of course the former machine doesn't have anything on 10909, and the latter has nothing on 10892. Sometime back, I pulled down MIB-Dell-10909 and dropped it into $OBSERVIUM_HOME/mibs/dell, but I haven't tried hacking on any of the php files anywhere... but it leads the question of whether it would be a "low-hanging fruit" type of change or if it would be something more substantial. Mysql binary log files full hd

We've got a server running subscription observium and inadvertently had our mysql binary logging settings not optimized and filled the drive. Mysql won't start to run the recovery process due to the full drive. Server is only running observium. Is it safe to manually delete some of the old binlog files to get mysql to start and then run the cleanup in mysql or would I lose observium info? Thanks! Jay

Adding MIB

Hello, I'm a system admin and I'm new to Observium. I've use other monitoring tools in the past, but deploying my own monitoring tool is all new to me. My plan is to test out the waters and possibly implement Observium to our corporate LAN/WAN consisting of approximately 250 devices. I've got 13 core devices responding and polling is working via SNMPv3. I'm getting a lot of useful data from my core switches. One important data I need is DHCP server information (mac address binding/IP address leases) from our HP switches. These core switches have multiple functions and one of those function is DHCP server. I need to be able to pull this DHCP server data and retain it for a period of time. Maybe send it to a syslog server. My problem is the MIB (HP-ICF-DHCPV4-SEVRER-MIB) is missing from my Observium install. I've been searching for a couple of hours and have not found a good starting point on how to add this MIB. I see that simply coping the MIB into the Observium install directory isn't the complete process. On your FAQ, the answer to "Vendor specific MIB" was very vague and was not very helpful. Can someone give me a brief run down of what I need to do to get this MIB working? What resources to read for more understanding of the MIB process. I'm sure someone's asked this question before, sorry if I'm repeating the question. Thank You,Nick

Browsing to the device's page it looks like the changes below aren't actually be applied (no serial number listed, hardware is generic). How can I go about fixing this? Problems with Checkpoint Gaia interface naming

Dear List-Users, maybe someone can help me with my problem as it seems to happen quite often. Checkpoint uses different names in the ifDescr and ifNames field. The correct interface names are in the ifNames field. Now Observium uses the ifDescr field to display the interface names, because normally both fields have the same conntent. unending disk space growth?

Since we last rebuilt our Observium instance in late 2019, we've noticed that it's chewing up disk space at a prodigious rate, that we didn't see before. We're seeing a steady ~300BG/month increase in storage needs. Observium, of course, monitors itself, and the line on the storage graph is a nearly-perfect slope (after adjusting for disk size increases). This came to my attention this morning (again), when we ran out of disk space (again) and I had to expand the volume (again) to continue operating. (So much for our alerting... oops.) We have added a few new devices, but not 1TB worth, and not consistently and constantly since late 2019. Since RRD files are - in theory - fixed-size, why does /opt/obvservium/rrd keep growing without bound? And how can I predict future growth? Will it ever stop? Help? Changes to alarm checkers

Hi I see that some changes has been done to how you build the alarm checkers since a while back. Before you had to type everything out to match everything, devices, entitys and association,conditions. Now some of the things we have matched for and has worked no longer works. Also there are some stuff that I could match for before but not any londer. for example in a few cisco devices I run som links with macsec and I want to verify that the encryption is running and send an alert if not. This I can not do any more. see picture for the data I want to use: How can I still use this in observium 21.9.11575 (stable) ? ---- Regards Daniel

OpticalChannel no longer ignored

Hi! Overnight during the svn up to 11597 we have gained a couple of hundred 'ports' which are on various SmartOptics chassis (DCP and M series) of type "Optical Channel" There was already an exclusion for this type of interface (as the data polled is null anyway, even for 'Up' channels) but it now seems to be ignoring the exclusion and showing a couple of hundred extra (Down) ports now. The current config.php exclusions I've tried are: $config['bad_if_regexp'][] = "/opticalChannel/"; $config['bad_if'][] = "opticalChannel"; $config['bad_iftype'][] = "opticalChannel"; With no luck, although it is correctly importing them into the config, for example: Any ideas please? Location Not Showing

Hallo, the snmp location configuration in the Cisco switches are separated by a comma. But in Observium, the comma is changed to 1%F, which I assume is the reason for the error. MySQL/MariaDB monitoring

Observium server redundancy

Is anyone using Observium to monitor Calix E7 GPON hardware?

Hello, We're in the processing of deploying a number of Calix E7 shelves and we'd really like to be able to monitor them using Observium. The problem is that a fairly full shelf can take a very long time (well over 5 mintues) to discover/poll. Our major concern is to be able to look at the uplink ports & the physical PON ports. More info would be nice, but it's not as important. If anyone is using Observium to monitor these devices and would be willing to share how you're doing it we'd greatly appreciate it.
