cLApPowerStatus object in SNMP regarding AP powers
by Magda Romanowicz Nasfeter (magroman) 29 Oct '26

Hello Team, has anyone come across cLApPowerStatus object in SNMP regarding AP powers? This is the object: https://mibs.observium.org/object/CISCO-LWAPP-AP-MIB/cLApPowerStatus, and how to interpret them? For example, we have Cisco 9120AXI receiving 25.5 watt, SNMP will return twentyfivedotfive or full? Could you please explain the different levels? PHP Weathermap Integration
by Adam Armstrong 23 Oct '26

23 Oct '26

Hi Guys, We added PHP Weathermap into Observium ~2 years ago, but the enabling option wasn't documented because there was an odd javascript bug breaking the UI. It turns out the bug was the same variable name being used in two completely separate bits of code, causing a clash. Typical Javascript. This is fixed now and it mostly functions, so I've unhidden the enabling option in the web-based config. $config['weathermap']['enable'] = TRUE; It works slightly differently to the original weathermap, it generates maps on the fly and is a little better integrated into the UI. It retains all of the old issues though, the weathermap code is very, very old and should not be enabled on installs untrusted people have access to. Thanks, adam. -- Sent from Postbox <https://www.postbox-inc.com/?utm_source=email&utm_medium=siglink&utm_campai…>

In reference to the Carto key problem, do you have any idea when this fix will get pushed to stable? I am running Observium 26.7.15008 (stable)<https://www.observium.org/> right now and I am not seeing it. Thanks for your efforts! Tony

LLDP with UTF8 encoding isn't working
by Bryan Fields 22 Oct '26

22 Oct '26

I've noticed this is silently dropped, but it's valid in the LLDP spec that UTF8 is supported. The HEX response comes back for the system name, and even prints out in debug, but doesn't appear that it shows up in observium. Is this a limitation of handling in the DB? -- Bryan Fields 727-409-1194 - Voice http://bryanfields.net

Data Centers: The Essential Facilities Powering Our Digital World
by harshtech＠vivaldi.net 21 Oct '26

21 Oct '26

A data center is a specialized facility that houses computer systems and supporting equipment used to store, process, and distribute digital information. It contains servers, networking devices, storage systems, and infrastructure that keeps them operating reliably. When people send messages, stream videos, shop online, use cloud software, or access websites, data centers often handle the underlying computing work. These facilities range from small rooms serving a single organization to enormous campuses supporting millions of users. Their design brings together technology, power, cooling, physical security, and operational expertise. Unlike ordinary office buildings, data centers are engineered to maintain continuous service, protect valuable information, and respond quickly to equipment failures. They form a physical foundation for services that may appear entirely online, connecting digital applications with the machines and networks that make them function. How Data Centers Operate Inside a data center, servers run applications and process requests, while storage systems retain files, databases, and backups. Networking equipment moves information between servers, users, and other facilities. Software helps administrators monitor performance, allocate computing resources, and identify potential problems. Workloads may run on dedicated hardware or be shared through virtualization, which allows multiple virtual machines to use one physical server. Cloud providers can adjust computing capacity as customer demand changes. To maintain service, facilities use monitoring systems that track equipment health, temperature, network traffic, and power consumption. Technicians and automated tools investigate alerts and manage maintenance. Some operations are designed to continue even when a component fails, using spare equipment or alternate systems. This combination of hardware, software, and operational procedures enables data centers to support everything from business applications to large-scale online platforms. Power, Cooling, and Reliability Servers require electricity and produce heat, so power and cooling systems are central to data center design. Facilities typically use utility connections, electrical distribution equipment, backup generators, and uninterruptible power supplies to reduce disruption during outages. Cooling systems remove heat and keep equipment within suitable operating conditions. Depending on the facility, they may use air circulation, chilled water, or other cooling approaches. Reliability also depends on how these systems are arranged: some designs include redundant equipment or multiple power paths so that maintenance or a failure does not immediately interrupt service. Operators regularly test backup systems and monitor conditions around the clock. No design can eliminate every risk, but careful planning, routine maintenance, and incident response can limit the impact of equipment faults, severe weather, or utility problems. Reliability is therefore a result of both engineering choices and disciplined day-to-day operations. Security and Data Protection Data centers protect both the information processed by their systems and the equipment that stores it. Physical safeguards may include controlled entrances, identification checks, cameras, visitor procedures, and restricted areas. Digital safeguards operate at the network and software levels and can include encryption, access controls, firewalls, and continuous monitoring. Security responsibilities are often shared among facility operators, cloud providers, and customers, so organizations need to understand which protections each party manages. Data protection also involves backups, recovery plans, and procedures for restoring services after an incident. These measures do not make systems invulnerable; risks can include cyberattacks, human error, hardware failure, and disruptions to supporting infrastructure. Organizations should assess their requirements, review provider policies, limit access to sensitive systems, and test recovery arrangements. A well-managed facility combines physical security, cybersecurity, staff training, and clear accountability. Source: https://www.marketresearchfuture.com/reports/data-centers-facility-market-3…

I noticed some strange behavior with alerts after doing a recent update. I have the Professional subscription. I looked in the update-errors.log and saw many errors. Have not had any issues in many years so was surprised I mucked up the upgrade. Looking for some direction on solving these issues. I'm comfortable using mysql and can make changes. I attached the log. Nothing concerning in the other Brian Repsher Sr. Staff QA Engineer [cid:285d79db-05a0-4f56-8e19-72a0637d01d5] 2400 Ogden Ave Ste 180 Lisle IL 60503 Office: 847-561-8452

LDAP Auth and API Token
by Graf Vincent 15 Oct '26

15 Oct '26

Hello, I face off with a strange behavior and maybe some of you can help me. I run the last stable version of Observium (26.10.15295) on a Debian 12 server with active subscription. All my users are authenticated by LDAP and everything works perfectly. For some reason, I would like to create API token to avoid using username/password for API calls but the API Token page doesn't appear in the GUI ?! Instead of the page, Observium seems to run indefinitely without any error message and just the status bar at the bottom of the browser that say "waiting for observium.xxx.xx ...". Same problem occurs when I click on the menu "Users & Roles" -> "Edit user" Stranger, in my "Profile" page, I can see under Access key : API Tokens : API tokens are not available on this installation. API is well activated in the config.php and I can use it with username/password. The LDAP user that I use for creating token is full admin (level = 10) Any help would be greatly appreciated Kind regards Vincent
