Help with UNIX Agent and Bind

All, I would like some help with the UNIX Agent. I have been able to get the agent up and running on the device and listen on port 36602 which in turn the Observium server can communicate with. I have UNIX Agent turned on in Obervium config and the server does show me a button to turn on "BIND" with a slider button. When I slide the BIND button to ON and press save Observium says "No Application found on this device." I have provided screenshots. What am I missing because I am close to getting this working. status field in devices table

I have 2 Palo Alto firewalls which dropped off the map at the same time about 25 days ago. I think it may have coincided with an Observium upgrade; but I didn't write down update particulars and I don't think Observium maintains a history? When I run discovery with debug there is a SQL query posted (which fails) attempting to lookup the device: SQL[SELECT * FROM `devices` WHERE `disabled` = 0 AND `hostname` LIKE 'vpn01-p.{redacted}' AND `status` = '1' AND `poller_id` = '0' ORDER BY `last_discovered_timetaken` ASC] In this case, the query fails because "status" is actually set to 0. So what is the "status" field for in the "devices" table and how is it set 'wrong?' There is a "statuses" tab in the web GUI for the device's "properties", but in this case (a PAN firewall) there are 2 MIB entries for indicating the fail-over status of the device pair ("HA State" and "HA Peer State"); so I don't think they have anything to do with the "status" field in the DB. -- Clark 159a 508/289-3112

Hi, my company was using Observium (Subsciption Edition, SE) for quite a long time so I wanted to stick with Observium for my private lab. Since I have just some private Mikrotik routers and APs in the lab, the commercial edition might be way too mighty for my ~ 10 devices. So I tried to get the old installation downgraded to the CE edition. There was a hint on Observium's website a long time ago but I was not able to find it anymore. So I tried the idea from the current webpage (starting from Community Edition): Since I had an old Mariadb installation, I had to upgrade to Mariadb10.6.17 as well during installation. After I updated the databases with |/opt/observium/discovery.php -u | and made a full discovery with |/opt/observium/discovery.php -h all | |But I ran in trouble with the installation: | |So, my downgrade does not work this way. And yes, I got a backup of the previous installation ;-) | | | | | |I think, this derives from the information, that the CE Version does not support groups (?), but this is just a guess. | | | | | |So basically, I have two questions:| |1. span port on hp switch alerts as down....why?

Hi, I have created a simple checker to notify on some specific ports. The way I built it is that I include the word "alert" on the description. The checker parses that and alerts if that port goes down. This is working fine for the most part...except on one port. On my switch, C8 is a fiber 10gig port and it is up as shown here: Status and Counters - Port Counters for port C8 Name : random span port MAC Address : eaaaa3-cd9bb8 Link Status : Up Port Enabled : Yes [cid:image002.jpg@01DA7C37.EF9B2A60] However, the checker lists it as down: [cid:image009.jpg@01DA7C37.EF9B2A60] The test conditions are pretty simple: [cid:image010.jpg@01DA7C37.EF9B2A60] The only difference between the ports that work and C8 are; it is 10gig fiber and it is a span port...do either of these issues explain why this port is listed as down (only by the checker)??? Capture gaps when retrieving interface traffic data …

Hello! We query with snmp Observium the port data from a Mikrotik router (CCR2004-16G-2S+) with RouterOS 7.14.1 (Level 6) via SNMP from 4 WAN interfaces with polling and alerts. However, we always have gaps in the data. Every now and then 5-10 minutes of data are missing, so that vertical lines without data appear in the rrd - of course this only becomes clear in the 6h overview. We are surprised because we have the impression that it only started on this device (and others) almost a year ago. We therefore renewed the hardware, reinstalled the system (debian12) and only queried this router alone (also deleted the query from the old Observium to avoid parallel double queries). We look at https://.../pollerlog/ and see our patient there: Device Last Polled 10.X.X.1 100% 108.67s (...) and others of the location with 1-19%... Why 100%... where are the key data relevant here? We would be happy if someone could help us adjust the Observium "Poller Wrapper" parameters if necessary. Is there potential for adaptation there? Greetings Frankfurt/Main Stefan

Alert checker conditions

Hello, I'm attempting to create an alert checker for our router and switch power supplies. I seem to be part way there but am seeing some unexpected behaviour that I cannot explain. I started with the test condition: sensor_event notequals ok and the associations are "or:" Sensor Description match PEM* Sensor Description match Power Supply 0 @* Sensor Description match Power Supply 1 @* Here's a specific device inventory showing PEM 0 status is currently down: It seems the last two associations don't mach anything and for some reason the PEM* association only matches the power supplies that are ok, not the one I want the alert for which is currently down. I've tried to match against "Power Supply" and that matches power supplies in my servers but they don't seem to have a status, more like a current sensor instead. I'm attempting to deal strictly with the power supplies in our Juniper routers and switches and from what I can tell they all have a status/sensor_event state. I think the two "Power Supply 0 @*" associations should also match additional power supplies as shown in the list below taken from the hardware inventory and filtering for a description of Power Supply: Clearly I'm missing something en the alert checker associations but I'll be darned if I can figure out what that is. I've tried to match on MIB as well but nothing seems to match those power supplies. What am I missing here? Thanks, Dave.

Hello Observium Team, In our Datacenters we would like to make use of "jnxVirtualChassisMemberLocation" for Juniper switches using Virtual-chassis techhnology. Normally virtual-chassis are in different locations for redundancy reasons. The "snmp location" is not really good to capture the location of the device (as the two switches are in different places but location will show what is configured with "snmp location" command). We updated our switch config with "jnxVirtualChassisMemberLocation" information, but we still dont see the data in Observium. > show snmp mib walk jnxVirtualChassisMemberLocation jnxVirtualChassisMemberLocation.0 = B-U-099 R01.01 jnxVirtualChassisMemberLocation.1 = B-U-098 R01.02 Is this feature on the roadmap to be added? Adding more Nagions plugins

I went ahead and added another plugin to the /usr/lib/nagios/plugins directory where all the other working plugins are. When I go to add a probe it doesn't show up in the drop down box. Is there something that has to be ran to look for new plugins? Permissions/use/group are the same as the other plugins that work. Thanks

Syslog repetitive alerts

Is it possible to suppress repetitive syslog alerts? if yes how can I do this? The issue is I have a particular site which has an issue with one of the internet connections, it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting every 2 minutes. A syslog event is logged each time and I am getting an email alert for each log.

Advice please ! 😊 I have a server which has been running Observium well for some time. Although upgrading the Observium build is easy enough following the instructions at Updating - Observium<https://docs.observium.org/updating/#upgrading-the-subscription-edition-to-…> this obviously does not update the O/S itself. I had a try at upgrading following online instructions yesterday but after he upgrade was complete the Observium web interface would not display – I just got a page of text which I assumed to be PHP script being displayed rather than “running”. Does anyone have any idiot proof (ie aimed at Linux novice) guidance to upgrade the OS without breaking Observium ? Luckily I had taken a snapshot of the VM so could roll back without any drama. During polling of a host the syslocation -which is returned correctly by snmp- gets changed into another location (which is an old location before moving from "Address B" to "Address A"). $ /usr/bin/snmpget -v3 -l 'authPriv' -n '' -x 'AES' -X 'passwd' -a 'SHA' -A 'passwd' -u 'username' -Pud -Ih -OQUs --hexOutputLength=0 -m SNMPv2-MIB -M /opt/observium/mibs/rfc:/opt/observium/mibs/net-snmp 'udp':'HostName':'161' sysUpTime.0 sysLocation.0 sysUpTime.0 = 0:8:31:49.72 sysLocation.0 = "Address A" This is the correct address returned. A few lines lower in my debugging output I see: sysLocation rewritten from 'Address A' to 'Address B' by DB override. Even if I change the address in mysql to the correct address the polling process keeps changing it to the old address. Remove Switch Access interfaces from polling

Hi All, I'm a newbie user of Observium. I need to clear the polling in order to not have the access port checked on the campus that we monitored. We have about 50k access interfaces splitted on Cisco and HP Aruba stack. I understand that i declare in config.php the bad iface but they have different name: Cisco -> Gi1/0/1 HP Aruba -> 45 My goal is: only the uplink will be checked. How can i use the config for access layer Cisco and Aruba stack (iface range) ? $config['bad_if'][] = " Gi1/0/1 ->?"; $config['bad_if'][] = "1->"; Thanx in advance for your support Massimo

Observium support: can someone please address my question. Thanks Hi, I have a bunch of ping probes and I would like to write an alert for some (but not all). Error in Observium

Hello, good morning I have a problem seeing the information of 3 Cisco CBS350 Switches in observium (professional version), I add them normally like any other device, however it does not show me its Processor, Temperature, fanspeed, Status Indicators, etc. [cid:image006.jpg@01DA4F7C.759355E0] In other Cisco Switch models the tool works correctly. Hi, We've got various Juniper devices with links that have FEC enabled and CLI output shows the FEC stats, but I don't see them anywhere in Observium. Is this not supported or am I missing something to where it's at / what is it called? Thanks

cisco ASA's polling slow

Hi, I am just noticing that my Cisco ASA's poll really slow. While all my other infrastructure seems to poll about 5 to 7 sec per device, the ASA's all take 50 to 60 sec. Does anyone know why this is and maybe how to speed things up? I’d be happy to help however I can with this.. I'd really like to be able to see some information from my APs around usage/clients/errors/etc.... if you want more mib walks i can update the jira ticket with them again? but im not sure there will be much else to glean as not much has changed here.. if that's jus not gonna happen .... for.... whatever reason ... is there a vendor whose APs *ARE* well supported? I'd kinda figured this would be a solved problem.... or at least, wouldn't still be an issue several years later. is there anything I can do to help get traction here? PowerDNS Recursive Server application

What is the process for support on applications for observium subscribers? In this case the PowerDNS Recursive Server application. Should we reach out to the original author. In this case the script is very simple and it seems it has no documented authors. The issue is the script is no longer working even though it was in the past. RRD went missing after interface description change, screwing up billing.

Hey there, I have a bundle ether interface that had its interface description change, and now when I'm viewing the bill summary which keys to this bundle ether interface, the graphs are missing, and if I hover over the port under "billed ports" in the bill information section, I get 4 of the same error: ERROR: opening '/opt/observium/rrd/<<IP>>/port-113.rrd': No such file or directory. I go into the server and sure enough there is no port-113.rrd in that directory. Also, the port description name under the billed ports section shows the old interface description still. I have another bundle ether that also had an updated interface description and that one is fine, and the port description is updated correctly on the billing page. How do I fix this? It seems like maybe data is still getting successfully pulled because the Used counts are increasing along with the average. What would happen if I created an empty port-113.rrd file in the directory, and why would this file have gone missing? Thanks for any help you can provide. -Seth

Hello, we have installed observium 23.2.12520. When the survey is carried out on the devices, there are several that indicate that the time used was 1 or 2 seconds while others exceeded 20 seconds. How could this be fixed? The devices have the same make and model. -- Saluda cordialmente

SNMP sysLocation NeDi format

I found a post from 2014 showing the NeDi format works when using the Google API. I have tried a few different variations of it but under the location it shows a location for each device as the rack unit is different per device. Is this not supported and we should just do the physical location and not deal with the rack and rack unit or I am missing something? I thought before I had used () or [] in the location and the map parsing still worked but I don't see that in the docs anywhere. Thanks

PHP Weathermap Integration

Hi Guys, We added PHP Weathermap into Observium ~2 years ago, but the enabling option wasn't documented because there was an odd javascript bug breaking the UI. It turns out the bug was the same variable name being used in two completely separate bits of code, causing a clash. Typical Javascript. This is fixed now and it mostly functions, so I've unhidden the enabling option in the web-based config. $config['weathermap']['enable'] = TRUE; It works slightly differently to the original weathermap, it generates maps on the fly and is a little better integrated into the UI. It retains all of the old issues though, the weathermap code is very, very old and should not be enabled on installs untrusted people have access to.
