Email alerts
by Matt Zillmann 18 Jan '16

Hello everyone, I am trying to figure out the best way to have email alerts sent from Observium to our exchange server ( IT email accounts on exchange server). What method is best? Does anyone have a recommendation and documentation on how to configure? I am new to setting up email on a Linux host. Thank you, Matt

FW: Custom OID alerting
by Franks Andy (IT Technical Architecture Manager) 18 Jan '16

18 Jan '16

Hi all, Like the custom oid addition, it's nice to be able to add support for some each oids if necessary. One thing I've never been able to find out how to do was get mount point support in windows for space percentages used - I can now do this, but wondered whether I could do a custom oid alert? We tend to not have the time to proactively check graphs, so an alert would be ideal. Thanks Andy

reporting and billing
by Anthony Parker 18 Jan '16

18 Jan '16

Hi I am running a couple of installs of the community edition and I like it very much. I would like to expand into suggesting Observium to our customers as a reporting and billing tool and I am wondering Is it possible to get a demonstration copy of the subscription edition of observium to show clients the reporting they can expect? Is it possible to convert an installation to/from the subscription edition or does one simply create a new installation? Thanks Anthony Anthony Parker M9 (IT) Ltd. No, I have 30GB free on my / (root). ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Sun, 17 Jan 2016 13:09:50 -0500 From: "Edward Weir" <edward.weir(a)gmail.com> To: <observium(a)observium.org> Subject: [Observium] NaN on Graphs Message-ID: <046e01d15152$42167070$c6435150$(a)gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Hi, I've been trying to get my graphs to work but I'm still getting NaN on 'some' of my them. I have a Cisco c891fw router and interfaces g2 and g3 graph fine but the other interfaces g0, g3, g4, g5 do not graph and I get a NaN but keep in mind that I do see their traffic transfer rates. I do not get a 'draw error', just a blank graph. I'm running the following: Ubuntu 15.10 Observium CD 0.15.6.6430 NET-SNMP version: 5.7.3 RRDtool 1.4.3 I have updated to the latest RRDtool version 1.5.5 but then I get the draw errors. Is there anything you can provide to help. Thanks, ejw

Still get alerts on deleted interfaces / vinterfaces
by Pirmin Sidler - Computerline 17 Jan '16

17 Jan '16

Dear Observium members, Monitored interfaces went down on our brocade devices, then we deleted the interfaces (because we didn't use them anymore). We are now facing a bug where alerts are still up and still send Email notifications, even if Observium sees the interfaces as deleted. I have seen there is a "ignore until OK" button in the interface monitoring options but I want it out of alerts. Question: is this a bug? If yes, has it been fixed? (long not upgraded the files). Thanks! Best regards, Pirmin Sidler

Observium: Pre-auth and security questions
by Nate Mellendorf 17 Jan '16

17 Jan '16

Good evening everyone, I've been trying to configure Observium with a forms based SSO solution. My reasoning for this, is that I'd like to minimize the attack surface for Observium when published to the Internet. As Observium supports groups, I thought it would be extremely beneficial for clients to view their throughput at anytime from anywhere. I was curious if anyone in the community is using pre-authentication, or if you're publishing Observium directly to the Internet. I'm not as familiar with Apache and PHP, so hardening the service through pre-auth seemed like a good first step. Unfortunately, I can't quite get pre-auth to work. Observium uses forms based authentication, which is hard to capture on the platform I'm using. Here's a link, if you're curious on how I'm trying to capture it: http://fritsesblog.blogspot.com/2015/04/link-to-netscaler-form-sso-kb.html If I could get Observium to use basic authentication, I think I could get it to work. Do we know if this is possible? A better question, is pre-auth even necessary here? Aside from HTTPS, iptables, firewalling, and locking down SSH/root, what other steps do you take to secure your Observium server? Do you think that allowing Internet access is unwise at this time? Thank you for any input on insight into this. This is a concern of mine that I'm trying to address. Your suggestions and opinions are very much appreciated. Regards, - NM

Strange issue with BGP sessions on Juniper MX104

Hello, We are running Observium professional 0.16.1.7407 and we have an issue with BGP session discovery on a Juniper MX104 (dual RE), running discovery against the device displays the fact there are numerous bgp sessions but not a single session appears under the device in the Observium WebUI.
