Hello all, I am integrating Observium alerts with a Matrix notification service and would like the Matrix message to include the alert graph, similar to the standard email alert. While looking at the email transport code, I noticed that it already receives a prepared $context['graphs'] structure. Each graph contains fields such as type, url, and data, and the email transport simply embeds the rendered graph image from that data. With webhook alerts, however, the JSON payload does not appear to include this graph information. Reconstructing the correct graph from the available webhook fields is difficult because the graph type and parameters are not always obvious. Would it be possible for webhook transports to expose the same graph context that is already available to the email transport (for example, the graphs[] array or at least the graph URL? That would make it much easier to integrate Observium alerts with systems such as Matrix or Slack while preserving the graph context included in email alerts. Script environment variable OBSERVIUM_DURATION always 0s

hi, another issue i am finding with script variables is OBSERVIUM_DURATION. i am including in script notifications but it always reports as 0s (current date). so in other words, the duration of the alert is always reported to be 0s. this seems like a bug as well?? should i put in a ticket for this also? thanks again for all your help!

Hi Team since I've upgraded to Observium CE 26.1.14545, my Telegram notifications stoped working. ./test_alert.php -d -c <contact_id> works and it sends a test message which is also received by Telegram, but ./test_alert.php -d -a <alert_entry> gives an error (in which it among other thing says: "Oops! Something went wrong! You may want to report this to the Observium developers.") The log is attached Sincerely

Adding new OS to central but still getting generic

Hello, I'm trying some thing. First I have a Central Observium server hosting the DB and graphs. My devices are polled via another Debian-poller who's the only one talking to central observium. hi, i am using a custom script for my alert notification and i use some of the environment variables defined here: https://docs.observium.org/alerting_transports/#script recently i noticed that the environment variable OBSERVIUM_TIMESTAMP returns null. this seems like a bug...is it? should i report it in Jira?

host-description "<something>" setting on Dell S4148T will not register device correctly in Observium

If you have the 'host-description' set within the switch config on a Dell S4148T it will not register the switch correctly in observium. It will see it as a generic device instead. If you remove the setting it will register the switch correctly and you get the Dell logo plus extra information in the summary box for the device. OcNOS Interfaces: Sensors Numbering

Hi Observium Team, we noticed that when monitoring IPInfusion/OcNOS Routers (at least on Ufispace s9510-s28dc) the Interface Sensors naming is incorrect, some items are offset by 1, and others are not showing up. For example, we have an interface with ifDescr="xe4" which is detected correctly in the ports/basic tab (see ports.png) - but in the Sensors tab it is detected as xe5 (see sensors.png - xe5 has no treansciever and is Admin Down on this device). Other ports are not showing up in the Ports/Sensors section, but they do appear in Health/dBm (see dbm.png). IPInfusion is starting the interface enumeration in ifDescr with 0 (ce0 is the first interface), and in the CMM-CHASSIS-MIB the interfaces are indexed by CmmTransIndex starting with 1. For example, xe4 receive power is at: .1.3.6.1.4.1.36673.100.1.2.3.1.22.1.5.1 (notice cmmTransIndex = 5) ce0 receive power: .1.3.6.1.4.1.36673.100.1.2.3.1.22.1.1.1 (notice cmmTransIndex = 1) Is there any option to fix this? Configuring a custom dashboard

Sadly I can find no documentation on individual dashboard widgets? I want to create a dashboard with some specific graphs. Is there a widget which will display such? (I'd prefer not to have to do the "compose a blank HTML page with links to graphs" style of dashboard because of the authentication disconnect.) What is the widget used on the default dashboard to show Internet Traffic? What is "Traffic Composition?" (a.k.a "Traffic Comparison") and how do you configure it? hi. Yesterday, we updated to a new version of the Linux operating system, "Rocky Linux 9" and the observium version 25.10.14367 (rolling) . We adjusted the server's date and time according to our time zone (GMT-3), and the php.ini file has `date.timezone = America/Argentina/Buenos_Aires`. However, Observium is still showing UTC time. Hi, I have been spending a lot of time with this graph (firewalls/graphs/firewalls/Remote Access sessions) and I am noticing something that does not make sense.. [cid:image001.png@01DC23D4.A70D0700] In this graph, you can see that I have 4 ssl tunnels and 13 lan-to-lan tunnels. Observium seems to be showing this as a stacked graph but I don't think that makes sense. SQL Schema Update 509 -> 510 failing

I'm experiencing an issue with the SQL schema update process and would appreciate your guidance. The schema update from version 509 to 510 is failing during the discovery process. Here's the output I'm seeing: ./discovery.php -h none -- .... 509 -> 510 # (db) (Column collations were changed from UTF-8 to Latin1 where it wasn't actually necessary)...........F. Login Attempts fail on new CE install

After a basic install of the CE edition, I am unable to log into the system. I added a user via CLI and can see that user as valid within the database. When I enable debug, I can see that the system is attempting the login but when it tries to pull the userlevel from the database, it does not appear to be passing the username into the query, so it is attempting to get the userlevel of username = '' and failing. The authentication failure is correctly populating into the auth_log insertion query. See below for the output of the debug info on the login page. Is this a bug in the system or is something configured incorrectly? I can see the user with level 10 in the database. Huawei VRP - filtering by OS Version error

Hello, After update to Observium 25.7.14103 (rolling) (14th July 2025) we see problem with filtering Huawei VRP devices by OS software. If I try to use discovered OS V200R011C10SPC600 (V200R011SPH009) as a filter parameter in result I see "No devices found Please try adjusting your search parameters". I have 7 devices discovered with this software. If I try to use discovered OS V200R019C00SPC500 as a filter parameter I am getting exact number of devices with this OS monitored by Observium. I did a rollback to 25.2.13882 (stable) (6th February 2025) where this problem isn't occurring. Is there some configuration I need to change, to be able to have working filter in new version? Widget Status - exclude "port down"

Hi guys, we have been using the payed version af Observium for many years now and are quite happy. Our Status widget has changed recently, and it now includes "port down" which is messing with our view. Many ports is down (which is ok), and they have recently been added to the widget. I hope the widget can be modified to exclude "port down" - how to do that ? The widget normally only shows down devices and when devices was reboot'd. I have tried to add the widget, and it seems to be called "Status Table (Old)" TIA. sensors and devices up down false alarms

In the last months I'm starting to get some issues I cannot debug well . I have some alert of devices up&down that are not really going down even at ping check. I'm sure that there are no network issues as we are talking about near switch devices, I'm starting to think that I need to debug if our observium is starting to "saturate" and the performance get poor. is there something I can check to find if we need to tune observium ? Or best practices tI can use ? CPU occupation graphs are kind of weird, processors occupation is different between Processors and Detailed Processors graphs : any idea is welcome Best Regards Simone

I just ran the install script on debian 12 as I'm rebuilding our server. I let it install mysql via the script and it died out as mysql was unable to start. phantom sensor and status alerts

Hi, I am running pro version [cid:image001.png@01DBD0A7.1BDDACF0] today, I saw there were a couple of status alerts and a sensor alert...however, when I click on these links, those alerts are not listed, only the warning is listed.... RAM needed per number of ports

To update a server for Observium, we want to estimate the amount of RAM needed based on the number of ports. We have 30,000 ports on 650 devices. 28,000 ports are ignored (user only). We're interested in monitoring 2,000 ports. Can you confirm if 8GB of RAM will be sufficient? Or should we consider more RAM? -- Saluda cordialmente

Good day, We are considering purchasing Observium, either the Professional or Enterprise, and would like to know if it will meet our specific requirements. 1 - Will we be able to monitor the following vendors: Sonicwall, APC, Granstream (switches, PBX), Ubiquity, Netgear switches, Dell, servers, and workstations? 2 - Due to some required pro-activity monitoring, we use syslog. Can Observium handle syslog. (e.g. we need to be notified as soon as a port goes down instead of waiting for the polling cycle) 3 - We need to have the system send an alert to our ticketing system. Does Odservium send one alert per email, or does it group all the alerts into a single email? Looking forward to a reply to move forward. Thanks Rudy

Hi, today I noticed that my syscontact email is not getting sent on alerts. Other contacts get the emails but not the syscontact. Migration went wrong / Windows SNMP Service detection not working

Hello, i am quite new to the administration of Observium. The old admin is out of reach and gone. I tried the migration process like described. Old Server: Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS with Observium 25.2.13882 (stable) New Server: Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS with Observium 25.4.13987 (stable) The Migration seems to be not 100%. Problems: 1. Only 10 of 43 Probes have been migrated 2. After re-adding some check_ping probes I stumbled across the folder /usr/lib/nagios/plugins The folder was empty Checked the old Server; full folder Copied the hole folder to the new Server. Check_ping now possible and working 1. Check_snmp_win is still not possible. Started the old server; still able to check the Windows services How can I check, what's wrong with my new Server and the Windows Service Check? GVB

Wrapper discovery misbehaving

I am running multiple pollers, and we just noticed that the discovery of new hosts is not doing what we would expect when trying to partition the workload. Instead of doing a third of the new hosts, it does a third of all the hosts, essentially doing a full discovery, which is causing some our PDU’s to get overloaded, since they are being hit by 3 parallel discoveries and also possibly a poll at the same time. /opt/observium/observium-wrapper discovery --host new -i 3 -n 0 If I remove the -i and -n options, then it does what I would expect, although it is not distributed, which isn’t a problem because the number of new devices should be pretty small. So the --host and the -i and -n options appear to be mutually exclusive, which isn’t stated in the help at all.

Netstat Missing

If I look at the list of devices, when I select any of the network devices and select Graphs, the dropdown menu has an item called NETSTATS ... I'm trying to configure emailing so that I would like to be notified on some alerts generated by some of the alert checkers but not all of them, but I'm not able to do it :( Currently I'm receiving email alerts from all of my checkers. Hello all, Environment: Observium CE 24.12.13800, home lab. Rocky Linux release 9.5 (Blue Onyx) VM on ESXi. Problem: Since upgrading recently, I've had issues with constant "Processors: 1 deleted.", "Processors: 1 added." log entries, looks like against Ubiquiti gear only. Somewhat irritating... Charts end up looking like this, and clearly going to miss something in the eventlog... I've always had issues monitoring my Ubiquiti kit, butit seems to have got worse: "sysDescr -> ''" "sysDescr -> 'Ubiquiti UniFi UXG-Lite ~blah~'" "WARNING! Ports snmpwalk did not complete. Incorrect data in ArcGIS geocoding

I noticed when adding geolocation info to devices, I would consistently get incorrect data regardless of address format for ArcGIS in Observium and when using the test_geo.php script. Specifically, the United States address's "State". My preferred format is the NeDi hierarchical format<https://www.nedi.ch/documentation/index.html> (US;CA;Anaheim,1234 Main Street;2nd Floor;Server Room). Even using a typical format, info is incorrect. (1234 Main Street, Anaheim,CA) I suspect ArcGIS is returning the correct info, but the php is stuffing the data in the wrong fields. I don't know php enough to confirm. When you run the test-geo.php in debug, we get a lot of info, but I want to point out this section: I think this is the json formatted return from ArcGIS. All this data looks correct. In particular, notice the field descriptor "StName" with value "Disneyland". I think this is where to disconnect occurs. I think there was a misunderstanding that "StName" was the "State" value, while it is actually returned in "Region" (California) I think "StName" is the street name (Disneyland). So the solution would be for the php to stuff the "State" field with the value from "Region". I have a problem with some alerters... Although the alert really triggers and I get the confirmation “ALERT_NOTIFIY”, I get no message. No matter if by mail, SMS or webhook. Everything works normally with other alert checkers.

Eventlog incorrectly says interface circuit attribute has changed on every poll

We have some very long interface aliases (130 characters). The Observium parsed circuit ID is 66 characters but it appears to be limited to 64 characters somewhere. The annoying part is every time the device is polled a message is written to the eventlog saying the circuit ID has changed, showing the parsed circuit ID and a truncated version of it. We don't need the character limit increased (although that would be nice); we want the constant (incorrect) eventlog messages to stop (without changing the configured interface alias). (For those curious, the long circuit IDs are for circuits made of up several segments chained together from multiple providers.) Corwin

We operate a largish support function and have noticed people are suppressing alerts they think other people are working on, sometimes erroneously. Unexplained alerts for array controller

We've got a pair of new alerts for a Dell file server having several attached drive arrays. One alert clearly refers to the array controller; it is not clear to what the other refers, other than that it is storage-related. These alerts are: Drive ID 4 storage 3h 17m 52s ago alert fail Drive Controller PERC H730P Mini (Embedded) 3 storage 3h 19m 5s ago alert fail These alerts appeared immediately after starting the Systemd service dsm_sa_datamgrd, which had failed for an unknown reason. I believe this service runs an agent for the Dell OpenManage monitoring portal. Even after the restart of this service, that portal is reporting that it cannot communicate with the system. The iDRAC for this system reports no faults, and all relevant lights on it are green. The system appears to be working, in that the files it serves are available as normal. Do you have any ideas how to take this investigation forward? I see that a similar thread https://lists.observium.org/hyperkitty/list/observium@lists.observium.org/m… was opened nearly a year ago, but this did not receive any responses.

Hi, I am not able to correctly detect OS and use MIBs for Bridgetech probes... would you be willing to integrate them? Hi all, We are encountering the following issue and would like to request a new feature to address it. Problem: We have several alert checkers, such as "interface down," configured with time-based conditions for office hours (08:00–18:00) and with "send recovery notification" option enabled. This results in a recovery message being sent at 18:00, even if the interface is still down. Proposed Solution: To resolve this issue, we suggest moving the time restrictions from the alert checker to the contact settings. Specifically, we propose adding the ability to configure time and weekday restrictions directly in the contact settings (e.g., for email contacts). These settings could mirror the time and weekday conditions currently available in alert checkers. For example: Time: between 08:00 and 18:00 Weekdays: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 This feature would allow us to better manage notifications and avoid unnecessary recovery messages outside office hours. webhook Teams 400 bad request

"Hello, we started using Observium a while back (Observium CE 24.4.13528). I want to receive notifications within our Team in case of issues, so I created a webhook in Teams and added it in Observium under contacts. However, when I perform a test with `test_alert.php`, I get the error message '400 Bad Request' with the error 'Summary or Text is required'. I've read a lot about this issue, but I haven't been able to resolve it. I'm not very skilled at debugging, but I did test with Webhoo.site, and that works. Also, when I run `curl -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{"text": "Hello"}' https://xxxxxx`, the "Hello" message arrives in the Team. Building an Observium appliance

It's time I give something back to the community. This project, GitHub - SergeCaron/observium_appliance: Build and maintain an Observium appliance<https://github.com/SergeCaron/observium_appliance>, is aimed at SMB environments and walks the sysadmin through each phase of creating and maintaining (backup, restore, upgrade) an Observium appliance. It also covers the installation of Let's Encrypt certificates, secure (https) access to the Observium web site, basic email configuration for notifications, and log aggregation. It's basically a recipe with scripts. A small appliance with fault tolerant network configuration is shown to emphasize the standalone nature of the project. User access levels

Hi, I have another beginner question please. I have setup Active Directory authentication, but how can I limit users to exact devices? I really do not want for some users to see anything else than they need to and all of them have level 1 access. And I can't see any option to limit them or assign user to device. Observium isn't checking devices anymore.

Greetings, When I check the alerts I've created I can see that it's been 6 days since the last check was done, six days that the observium didn't check it. Ports switch are deleted after polling

I have more than 100 alcatel switches configured in my observium. All of these can be discoverd/polled properly. However, I have 3 switches whose ports are deleted after the devices were added (I think after polling). When I run a discover again the ports show up in the GUI for a while, until the next polling. Other data such as vlans, temperature etc are always available. Other switches in the same environment does have normal behaviour. Of course the switch does operate normally all the time. Observium does not show the graphs. We are using Observium on a VPS server in the Cloud. We manage the devices via VPN. When you start adding several devices, more than 5 approximately, Observium shows the devices online, but does not show any information in the graphs of the interfaces. Air gapped device - status and monitoring

Hello We have an air gapped device for back-up. This devices is active once a week for a couple of hours to get the latest back-up and then the device goes offline. The default behaviour is that the device is down and gives a 'error' for the rest of the week because it can't be reached. Is their a way to: * For a working window of the device? Meaning that outside the specified couple of hours the device will not show down/error? * Flip the device status when not in the working window? Meaning if the device goes online on a different time there is an alert?
