Unexplained alerts for array controller

We've got a pair of new alerts for a Dell file server having several attached drive arrays. One alert clearly refers to the array controller; it is not clear to what the other refers, other than that it is storage-related. These alerts are: Drive ID 4 storage 3h 17m 52s ago alert fail Drive Controller PERC H730P Mini (Embedded) 3 storage 3h 19m 5s ago alert fail These alerts appeared immediately after starting the Systemd service dsm_sa_datamgrd, which had failed for an unknown reason. I believe this service runs an agent for the Dell OpenManage monitoring portal. Even after the restart of this service, that portal is reporting that it cannot communicate with the system. The iDRAC for this system reports no faults, and all relevant lights on it are green. The system appears to be working, in that the files it serves are available as normal. Do you have any ideas how to take this investigation forward? MIB integration

Hi, I am not able to correctly detect OS and use MIBs for Bridgetech probes... would you be willing to integrate them? Observium Integration with MS Teams

Time rules for contacts

Hi all, We are encountering the following issue and would like to request a new feature to address it. Problem: We have several alert checkers, such as "interface down," configured with time-based conditions for office hours (08:00–18:00) and with "send recovery notification" option enabled. This results in a recovery message being sent at 18:00, even if the interface is still down. Proposed Solution: To resolve this issue, we suggest moving the time restrictions from the alert checker to the contact settings. Specifically, we propose adding the ability to configure time and weekday restrictions directly in the contact settings (e.g., for email contacts). These settings could mirror the time and weekday conditions currently available in alert checkers. For example: Time: between 08:00 and 18:00 Weekdays: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 This feature would allow us to better manage notifications and avoid unnecessary recovery messages outside office hours. webhook Teams 400 bad request

"Hello, we started using Observium a while back (Observium CE 24.4.13528). I want to receive notifications within our Team in case of issues, so I created a webhook in Teams and added it in Observium under contacts. However, when I perform a test with `test_alert.php`, I get the error message '400 Bad Request' with the error 'Summary or Text is required'. I've read a lot about this issue, but I haven't been able to resolve it. I'm not very skilled at debugging, but I did test with Webhoo.site, and that works. Also, when I run `curl -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{"text": "Hello"}' https://xxxxxx`, the "Hello" message arrives in the Team. Monitoring UPS

4 devices showing down after update to Observium

4 of my switches are showing: "Down (DNS)..." If I SSH into the server I can still ping the switches by DNS name. Thoughts? Building an Observium appliance

It's time I give something back to the community. This project, GitHub - SergeCaron/observium_appliance: Build and maintain an Observium appliance<https://github.com/SergeCaron/observium_appliance>, is aimed at SMB environments and walks the sysadmin through each phase of creating and maintaining (backup, restore, upgrade) an Observium appliance. It also covers the installation of Let's Encrypt certificates, secure (https) access to the Observium web site, basic email configuration for notifications, and log aggregation. It's basically a recipe with scripts. A small appliance with fault tolerant network configuration is shown to emphasize the standalone nature of the project. User access levels

Hi, I have another beginner question please. I have setup Active Directory authentication, but how can I limit users to exact devices? I really do not want for some users to see anything else than they need to and all of them have level 1 access. And I can't see any option to limit them or assign user to device. Also it would be great to assign users to exact device group I have created. Thanks a lot Tibor

Alert Checker question

Hi, Adam, is it possible to create an Alert Checker which will check number of trunks (see picture - trunk1,3,6 = 3) for trunk6 ? Something like: if it greater than 1, alert me? Trunk1,3,6 are discovered by Observium itself, I do not know how to check that type of item. Thanks in advance, Miro

Observium isn't checking devices anymore.

Greetings, When I check the alerts I've created I can see that it's been 6 days since the last check was done, six days that the observium didn't check it. Ports switch are deleted after polling

I have more than 100 alcatel switches configured in my observium. All of these can be discoverd/polled properly. However, I have 3 switches whose ports are deleted after the devices were added (I think after polling). When I run a discover again the ports show up in the GUI for a while, until the next polling. Other data such as vlans, temperature etc are always available. Other switches in the same environment does have normal behaviour. Of course the switch does operate normally all the time. OBSERVIUM STOP GRAPH

Observium does not show the graphs. We are using Observium on a VPS server in the Cloud. We manage the devices via VPN. When you start adding several devices, more than 5 approximately, Observium shows the devices online, but does not show any information in the graphs of the interfaces. Hi A few days ago we updated observium (from 23.2.12520 to 24.8.13606) and now we don't see the alerts for monitored ports. Before we saw yellow boxes (warnings), now they don't appear. Air gapped device - status and monitoring

Hello We have an air gapped device for back-up. This devices is active once a week for a couple of hours to get the latest back-up and then the device goes offline. The default behaviour is that the device is down and gives a 'error' for the rest of the week because it can't be reached. Is their a way to: * For a working window of the device? Meaning that outside the specified couple of hours the device will not show down/error? * Flip the device status when not in the working window? Meaning if the device goes online on a different time there is an alert? VMware VMs keeps discovering more and more

Can't log into Observium

Hey everyone, I had a functioning install of Observium 24.4.13528 (26th April 2024) running on Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS, just using mysql for auth. I then tried to switch to AD by entering info in the "AD" section of the /settings web UI config page. Once I did that, I got the error below when trying to log in. I switched back to mysql login, by manually changing $config['auth_mechanism'] = "ad"; to $config['auth_mechanism'] = "mysql"; in config.php, and am able to log in again. Custome Dashboard

I want to know if there's an option to make a custome dashboard in the Observium that will show me CPU, Memory, Storage usage in percents like it shows me when I press on 'Health' and choose one of them. So instead of pressing on 'Health' and choose 'Processors' or 'Memory' or 'Storage' it'll show me in a dashboard of them in one dashboard. Question about evaluation licenses

Hi! I am wondering if Observium offers evaluation licensenses? I am looking into intergrating Observium with Zabbix, and noticed that Observium has a RESTful API included in the Professional License. Greetings. For some reason recently I can NOT see any alert status, if I press on 'Alerts' it is empty and doesn't show anything. Sometimes it's showing the alert for a second and then all of the alerts disappeared. I tried to reboot the Ubuntu VM and also tried to see some logs but couldn't handle it, still having this issue. I didn't change anything within the Ubuntu machine the Observium installed on so ain't got a clue what's happened. Maybe you'll be able to assist me please. Sensor limit nominal and delta OIDs need different scaling

Hi, We are trying to set appropriate limits for a frequency sensor. There are OIDs for the nominal frequency and the acceptable deviation from it. The problem is the nominal OID needs 0.1 scaling while the deviation OID needs 1 scaling (the measured value needs 0.1 scaling). Is there a way to handle this? We tried using 'limit_scale' but that applies the same scaling to both the nominal and delta limits. The specific device is a CyberPower ATS PDU. The OIDs are ePDU2SourceStatusSourceAFrequency, ePDU2SourceStatusSourceBFrequency, ePDU2SourceStatusNominalFrequency and ePDU2SourceConfigFrequencyDeviation. Corwin

Unix agent not working on non-default port

We have several devices behind a NAT that require using an agent_port other than 36602. Even though I have changed the port in the GUI, the poller seems to continue using the standard port. The graphs for few network devices not getting displayed

Hi Team! We are running Observium pro version Observium 24.6.13582(stable). Lookslike the memory,processor and network graphs are seeing a draw error. You can still the values beside but it wont draw the graphs. It says "Draw error"/nan I looked into the permissions for the rrd folders for these devices and did change a non-working one similar to a working one as root:observium but that did not fix the issue. I also tried deleting (which was not ideal) a device and adding it back but that did not work as well. Please guide! Thanks! Regards Renuka Arya

Incorrect sensor limits caused by duplicate unit conversion

The definition for the temperature sensor on a CyberPower PDU (or UPS) environmental sensor accessory defines both "unit" and "limit_unit" as "F". This seems to cause the limit values to get converted (to Celsius) twice: first in "entity_limits_definition" using "limit_unit" and then in "discover_sensor_ng" using "sensor_unit" which is set from "unit". For us, the SNMP read limits of 59 and 90 F end up as -9.44 and 0.12 C on the sensor in Observium. This is on version r13629. Simply not setting "limit_unit" is a workaround if both the sensor and limit values use the same unit (maybe that is preferred when defining sensors?). If the units are different a proper fix is needed. Also, is this the preferred method for reporting this kind of issue? Corwin

How to add a device which only responds to ping/icmp?

Hi How can i add a device which cannot (!) speak any snmp and only responds to ping/icmp requests? We have an Aruba wlan setup (Mobility Master and two Mobility Controllers) and i want to add the aps to Observium, so that they are monitored but only by ping/icmp. Observium doesn't show interfaces within VPRN on Nokia routers

Hi Observium team, We are using Observium as a main tool to monitor our router interfaces and collect SNMP stats. We recently replaced our Juniper routers with Nokia SR 7750. We noticed that Observium doesn't work very well with Nokia routers. Observium can only show the interfaces in the master instance, not the interfaces within VPRN or VPLS instances (Nokia call those interfaces SAPs). To be able to see interfaces within VPLS or VPRN, we need to enable two other MIBs, TIMETRA-SAP-MIB and TIMETRA-VRTR-MIB. We are not sure how to enable those two MIBs. Hi, Checked around and can't figure out a way to do this and don't see anything in mailing list about it. Is there a way to build alerts based on the bandwidth value we are setting this way? For example we have a description of "[600Mbit]" and then want to alert on 80% of this value for example. I don't see a way to do this as the test conditions are all the parameters from SNMP. Obviously can make up a checker and do the math manually and what not but would not auto adjust and I need 100+ of these created. Would anyone else find this helpful? Thanks

Hi Our organization recently upgraded from Cisco 5520 WLC to Cisco 9800 WLC. In observium I get really good statistics about wireless client count and wireless ap count on the 5520 but not on the 9800. I am not sure if this is something on observium side or cisco side. But I wanted to ask if anyone has the same issue and if they found a solution. Or maybe this is just something that needs to be added. Bug report: Broken scaling on some SFP receive power graphs

Hi Observium team, We're having issues with some of the generated graphs. Some of our devices report the light level received by SFPs using mW (rather than dBm). We are on the latest stable revision (13582). Issue 1: The graphs generated by Observium for these sensors usually show an excessive scale of at least -100 mW to 100 mW when the data in the specified time interval are entirely within the range 100 nW to 1 mW and usually only a small chunk of that. The calculated minimum and maximum values shown below the graph are correct. These graphs worked properly in the past with a prior version of Observium. Issue 2: Selecting and deselecting the Force Autoscale option appears to have no effect on the generated graph or displayed rrd graph command. Manually running the generated rrd graph command after removing the "--alt-autoscale" option results in a good graph. Switch overview: configurable interface sorting?

Hello everyone, The port sorting in the device overview has been changed at some point. Previously, it was sorted alphanumerically, but now the numbers are prioritized. Before, the order was A1, A2, A3..., B1, B2, B3, etc. And now it is A1, B1, A2, B2..., A3, B3, etc. Is there a way to change the sorting back to the old method using a configuration switch? Percent CPU

Hi, cuestion. we have about 600+ devices (switchs, wireless, router), we want know CPU usage on each one . On many devices we see 93% CPU usage. but login into device we can see only 1 measure and shows less than 7% on slot 0.0. Missing rebuild buttons for groups and alert checkers

Hi, We use Observium groups extensively, often nested several times. Our alert checkers then reference these groups. After making changes to a group, including by adding a device, we used to force rebuilds of the groups (possibly several times) and checkers so the changes would propagate all the way through. We are on the latest stable revision (r13582) and the rebuild buttons are no longer available in the UI (possibly removed in r13391). What should we do now when we need to forcibly propagate changes? Oxidized Integration?

Hi, I am currently testing a replacement for rancid. Rancid has worked for a long time, but adding new device classes feels more and more unwieldy. Oxidized [1] makes a good first impression and I was able to add new device classes without big problems. Then of course I would also like to see an integration with my favorite network management tool :-) There are people who have already worked on this: https://github.com/colin-stubbs/observium-oxidized It looks like this patch doesn't quite work for current observium versions, so I'd like to ask if anyone is working on it and what are the chances that there could be an Observium integration (professional edition)? Polling - Real time port graphs are different on devices that run Linux natively

Hi Guys, I have noticed that the real-time graphs for devices that run Linux natively (JunosOS, UnifiOS, etc) display the traffic with "intervals in between". The non-native Linux devices (FortiOS, Cisco IOS) provide a nicer real-time graph for port traffic when polled. Is there something that could be adjusted so that the native Linux devices show the nicer graph? Best regards, Ruben

Now device is discovered with OS: F5 BIG-IP 16.1.0 Build 0.28.19 Engineering Hotfix (afm apm asm avr ltm) And I have basic stats like Network interfaces but nothing related to virtual servers that I believe is in other MIBs. Many devices shown as down(dns)

Hello all, I can see in my observium installation that many devices changed their status to down(dns). This is a new installation and we migrated the configuration yesterday on a new server and devices were working properly. At around the same time (14:20:00) a lot of our machines changed their status to down. The message in the Event log is "Device status changed to Down (dns)". I tried to find what the problem may be but I can see SNMP are correct and dns records exist for the systems. Any ideas? Thank you, Marios

Apache / https hung after updating Observing

Dear Observium Community We have for several times experienced problem after Obsevium Professional update. Today we updated from 24.4.13501 to 24.6.13582 (by using $ svn update & $ ./discovery.php -u) OS CentOS Linux release 7.9.2009 (Core) updated today w/ kernel: 3.10.0-1160.119.1.el7.x86_64 After restarting server we struggle logging in to WebGUI. Apache /httpd is complaining on “to many concurrent connections”. Are there any suggestion on how to update Observium without getting these problems? Any householding processes needed for a better update? Or maybe we need to be more patient and give the server some more minutes after update? incomplete list of windows services

In particular, I installed a service about 1 month ago on all my servers and this services does not show on any server in Observium. LDAP - Synology

I believe I have LDAP sort of working. I am trying to authenticate against a Synology LDAP server. When I use debug mode I see debug info for invalid users and bad passwords but if I enter a proper user and password there is no debug information and I get the error message “User is disabled”. So, I believe I am missing something. Cisco ASA stopped reporting port metrics

Hi, around October 2023 all my asa graphs start looking like this: [cid:image001.jpg@01DAAD26.4CD63480] All my port counters are zero from then on. I have 17 asa's and they all are behaving this way. It is very possible about that time, I applied an update to the asa's. Can someone give me some steps to troubleshoot this, so I can figure out if cisco actually broke something, or if there is an observium issue.... Much appreciated Tony Guadagno

I am very sorry but I am new to Observium and I don't really know how to ask this question. This also means that I have tried but cannot find questions of issues similar to what I am asking. I have a Unifi network. This question happens on all my switches. Is there a way to send a screenshot of what I am seeing. Basically I have an 8 port switch as can be seen below. NEWBIE Question: Global MIB Configuration

I am looking through the Global MIB Configuration and I see loads and loads of MIBs that are not used within my infrastructure. Things like Cisco, and A3COM, and many more. My question is two fold. The first is, is it good practise to disable non-used MIBS Then my second question is, is there a way to mass update the disabling of MIBS. The issue is, if I select a MIB and click disable, then the page refreshes and goes to teh top of the page. This is annoying for many because there are very many MIBs that I would like to disable. Observium 23.9.13005 Community Edition shows under PORTS --> VLANs two VLAN which are out of IEEE 802.1Q Range (0-4095) VLAN ID VLAN Name 4096 vlan4096 31 4097 VLAN 4097 after klicking on the VLAN Names it shows for both VLAN-Names all LAN Connects of our VMWare ESXi Hosts we got 2 older ESXi Hosts (v6 level) and 4 new ESXi Hosts (v8 level) an of course NO ESXi has a VLAN ID 4096/4097 Is this some kind of misinterpretation?

Help with UNIX Agent and Bind

All, I would like some help with the UNIX Agent. I have been able to get the agent up and running on the device and listen on port 36602 which in turn the Observium server can communicate with. I have UNIX Agent turned on in Obervium config and the server does show me a button to turn on "BIND" with a slider button. When I slide the BIND button to ON and press save Observium says "No Application found on this device." I have provided screenshots. What am I missing because I am close to getting this working. I have 2 Palo Alto firewalls which dropped off the map at the same time about 25 days ago. I think it may have coincided with an Observium upgrade; but I didn't write down update particulars and I don't think Observium maintains a history? When I run discovery with debug there is a SQL query posted (which fails) attempting to lookup the device: SQL[SELECT * FROM `devices` WHERE `disabled` = 0 AND `hostname` LIKE 'vpn01-p.{redacted}' AND `status` = '1' AND `poller_id` = '0' ORDER BY `last_discovered_timetaken` ASC] In this case, the query fails because "status" is actually set to 0. So what is the "status" field for in the "devices" table and how is it set 'wrong?' There is a "statuses" tab in the web GUI for the device's "properties", but in this case (a PAN firewall) there are 2 MIB entries for indicating the fail-over status of the device pair ("HA State" and "HA Peer State"); so I don't think they have anything to do with the "status" field in the DB. -- Clark 159a 508/289-3112

Hi, my company was using Observium (Subsciption Edition, SE) for quite a long time so I wanted to stick with Observium for my private lab. Since I have just some private Mikrotik routers and APs in the lab, the commercial edition might be way too mighty for my ~ 10 devices. So I tried to get the old installation downgraded to the CE edition. There was a hint on Observium's website a long time ago but I was not able to find it anymore. So I tried the idea from the current webpage (starting from Community Edition): Since I had an old Mariadb installation, I had to upgrade to Mariadb10.6.17 as well during installation. After I updated the databases with |/opt/observium/discovery.php -u | and made a full discovery with |/opt/observium/discovery.php -h all | |But I ran in trouble with the installation: | |So, my downgrade does not work this way. And yes, I got a backup of the previous installation ;-) | | | | | |I think, this derives from the information, that the CE Version does not support groups (?), but this is just a guess. | | | | | |So basically, I have two questions:| |1. span port on hp switch alerts as down....why?

Hi, I have created a simple checker to notify on some specific ports. The way I built it is that I include the word "alert" on the description. The checker parses that and alerts if that port goes down. This is working fine for the most part...except on one port. On my switch, C8 is a fiber 10gig port and it is up as shown here: Status and Counters - Port Counters for port C8 Name : random span port MAC Address : eaaaa3-cd9bb8 Link Status : Up Port Enabled : Yes [cid:image002.jpg@01DA7C37.EF9B2A60] However, the checker lists it as down: [cid:image009.jpg@01DA7C37.EF9B2A60] The test conditions are pretty simple: [cid:image010.jpg@01DA7C37.EF9B2A60] The only difference between the ports that work and C8 are; it is 10gig fiber and it is a span port...do either of these issues explain why this port is listed as down (only by the checker)??? Capture gaps when retrieving interface traffic data …

Hello! We query with snmp Observium the port data from a Mikrotik router (CCR2004-16G-2S+) with RouterOS 7.14.1 (Level 6) via SNMP from 4 WAN interfaces with polling and alerts. However, we always have gaps in the data. Every now and then 5-10 minutes of data are missing, so that vertical lines without data appear in the rrd - of course this only becomes clear in the 6h overview. We are surprised because we have the impression that it only started on this device (and others) almost a year ago. We therefore renewed the hardware, reinstalled the system (debian12) and only queried this router alone (also deleted the query from the old Observium to avoid parallel double queries). We look at https://.../pollerlog/ and see our patient there: Device Last Polled 10.X.X.1 100% 108.67s (...) and others of the location with 1-19%... Why 100%... where are the key data relevant here? We would be happy if someone could help us adjust the Observium "Poller Wrapper" parameters if necessary. Is there potential for adaptation there? Greetings Frankfurt/Main Stefan

Hello, I'm attempting to create an alert checker for our router and switch power supplies. I seem to be part way there but am seeing some unexpected behaviour that I cannot explain. I started with the test condition: sensor_event notequals ok and the associations are "or:" Sensor Description match PEM* Sensor Description match Power Supply 0 @* Sensor Description match Power Supply 1 @* Here's a specific device inventory showing PEM 0 status is currently down: It seems the last two associations don't mach anything and for some reason the PEM* association only matches the power supplies that are ok, not the one I want the alert for which is currently down. I've tried to match against "Power Supply" and that matches power supplies in my servers but they don't seem to have a status, more like a current sensor instead. I'm attempting to deal strictly with the power supplies in our Juniper routers and switches and from what I can tell they all have a status/sensor_event state. I think the two "Power Supply 0 @*" associations should also match additional power supplies as shown in the list below taken from the hardware inventory and filtering for a description of Power Supply: Clearly I'm missing something en the alert checker associations but I'll be darned if I can figure out what that is. I've tried to match on MIB as well but nothing seems to match those power supplies. What am I missing here? Thanks, Dave.

Hello Observium Team, In our Datacenters we would like to make use of "jnxVirtualChassisMemberLocation" for Juniper switches using Virtual-chassis techhnology. Normally virtual-chassis are in different locations for redundancy reasons. The "snmp location" is not really good to capture the location of the device (as the two switches are in different places but location will show what is configured with "snmp location" command). We updated our switch config with "jnxVirtualChassisMemberLocation" information, but we still dont see the data in Observium. > show snmp mib walk jnxVirtualChassisMemberLocation jnxVirtualChassisMemberLocation.0 = B-U-099 R01.01 jnxVirtualChassisMemberLocation.1 = B-U-098 R01.02 Is this feature on the roadmap to be added? Adding more Nagions plugins

I went ahead and added another plugin to the /usr/lib/nagios/plugins directory where all the other working plugins are. When I go to add a probe it doesn't show up in the drop down box. Is there something that has to be ran to look for new plugins? Permissions/use/group are the same as the other plugins that work. Thanks

Syslog repetitive alerts

Is it possible to suppress repetitive syslog alerts? if yes how can I do this? The issue is I have a particular site which has an issue with one of the internet connections, it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting every 2 minutes. Advice please ! 😊 I have a server which has been running Observium well for some time. Although upgrading the Observium build is easy enough following the instructions at Updating - Observium<https://docs.observium.org/updating/#upgrading-the-subscription-edition-to-…> this obviously does not update the O/S itself. I had a try at upgrading following online instructions yesterday but after he upgrade was complete the Observium web interface would not display – I just got a page of text which I assumed to be PHP script being displayed rather than “running”. Does anyone have any idiot proof (ie aimed at Linux novice) guidance to upgrade the OS without breaking Observium ? Luckily I had taken a snapshot of the VM so could roll back without any drama. During polling of a host the syslocation -which is returned correctly by snmp- gets changed into another location (which is an old location before moving from "Address B" to "Address A"). $ /usr/bin/snmpget -v3 -l 'authPriv' -n '' -x 'AES' -X 'passwd' -a 'SHA' -A 'passwd' -u 'username' -Pud -Ih -OQUs --hexOutputLength=0 -m SNMPv2-MIB -M /opt/observium/mibs/rfc:/opt/observium/mibs/net-snmp 'udp':'HostName':'161' sysUpTime.0 sysLocation.0 sysUpTime.0 = 0:8:31:49.72 sysLocation.0 = "Address A" This is the correct address returned. A few lines lower in my debugging output I see: sysLocation rewritten from 'Address A' to 'Address B' by DB override. Even if I change the address in mysql to the correct address the polling process keeps changing it to the old address. We have about 50k access interfaces splitted on Cisco and HP Aruba stack. I understand that i declare in config.php the bad iface but they have different name: Cisco -> Gi1/0/1 HP Aruba -> 45 My goal is: only the uplink will be checked. cisco ASA's polling slow

Hi, I am just noticing that my Cisco ASA's poll really slow. While all my other infrastructure seems to poll about 5 to 7 sec per device, the ASA's all take 50 to 60 sec. Does anyone know why this is and maybe how to speed things up? I’d be happy to help however I can with this.. I'd really like to be able to see some information from my APs around usage/clients/errors/etc.... if you want more mib walks i can update the jira ticket with them again? but im not sure there will be much else to glean as not much has changed here.. if that's jus not gonna happen .... for.... whatever reason ... is there a vendor whose APs *ARE* well supported? I'd kinda figured this would be a solved problem.... or at least, wouldn't still be an issue several years later. is there anything I can do to help get traction here? PowerDNS Recursive Server application

What is the process for support on applications for observium subscribers? In this case the PowerDNS Recursive Server application. Should we reach out to the original author. In this case the script is very simple and it seems it has no documented authors. The issue is the script is no longer working even though it was in the past. RRD went missing after interface description change, screwing up billing.

Hey there, I have a bundle ether interface that had its interface description change, and now when I'm viewing the bill summary which keys to this bundle ether interface, the graphs are missing, and if I hover over the port under "billed ports" in the bill information section, I get 4 of the same error: ERROR: opening '/opt/observium/rrd/<<IP>>/port-113.rrd': No such file or directory. I go into the server and sure enough there is no port-113.rrd in that directory. Also, the port description name under the billed ports section shows the old interface description still. I have another bundle ether that also had an updated interface description and that one is fine, and the port description is updated correctly on the billing page. How do I fix this? It seems like maybe data is still getting successfully pulled because the Used counts are increasing along with the average. What would happen if I created an empty port-113.rrd file in the directory, and why would this file have gone missing? Thanks for any help you can provide. -Seth

SNMP sysLocation NeDi format

I found a post from 2014 showing the NeDi format works when using the Google API. I have tried a few different variations of it but under the location it shows a location for each device as the rack unit is different per device. Is this not supported and we should just do the physical location and not deal with the rack and rack unit or I am missing something? I thought before I had used () or [] in the location and the map parsing still worked but I don't see that in the docs anywhere. Thanks

PHP Weathermap Integration

Hi Guys, We added PHP Weathermap into Observium ~2 years ago, but the enabling option wasn't documented because there was an odd javascript bug breaking the UI. It turns out the bug was the same variable name being used in two completely separate bits of code, causing a clash. Typical Javascript. This is fixed now and it mostly functions, so I've unhidden the enabling option in the web-based config. $config['weathermap']['enable'] = TRUE; It works slightly differently to the original weathermap, it generates maps on the fly and is a little better integrated into the UI. It retains all of the old issues though, the weathermap code is very, very old and should not be enabled on installs untrusted people have access to. xinetd not supported on RHEL 9, use systemd instead

Hi, as xinetd is not provided for RHEL 9, I wrote a couple of systemd units to make this work. I am sure someone smarter than me could make this better, but I have confirmed this does work on any modern systemd implementation. Would it be possible to get this in the documentation so the knowledge is not lost? Traffic accounting not working anymore

We recently built a new server with Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS and migrated Observium over. Everything seams to be working fine except for the Traffic Accounting. On the summary screen, it shows data from months ago (just before the upgrade), but when you click on one of the "bills" and look at the bandwidth graph, it's blank. I've tried adding a new bill and it same thing, no data. But if I click on the interface and go the that switch port, all the graphs are there. How can I reconnect the Traffic Accounting to pull data from the switchport graphs again? Thanks all!

is there an alert kill switch?

Hi, when my Microsoft servers patch monthly, they often reboot and that causes an alert that is unnecessary for me. Is there a way (maybe a script I could write) that would disable alerting? I am thinking about making a cron job that would run monthly (at the time I am patching) that would disable alerting...then maybe 2 hrs later, re-enable alerting. Is this possible? Hello, I am deploying Observium into a secured environment and I've a few questions. * What security measures are in place to protect subscription SVN branch? * Does SVN do any checksums or hashing of the code after it is checkout to the client to ensure no malicious attempts were made in transit? * Is there a contact name and email we can document in cases where we need to get direct support? * Is there a regular notification mechanism for updates to Observium? Recover dashboard and alerts

Does anyone know a way of integrating dynamic positioning into snmp? Usually you put the location in to syslocation attribute in snmpd.conf file. Hello, I am using Subscription version of Observium for over 4 years collecting data on over 35 devices including switch, routers and servers, using it daily I have recently added a Arista switch where traffic graph is not showing [or not getting drawn] although i can see the realtime traffic graph and all other info collected by observium. i have tried removing and re adding it to observium but the graph didn't worked. Can anyone help me resolve this. Teams webhook images green/red

Dear members, We have a webhook link to Microsoft teams for alerting from Observium. This works except for the "green/red" icons for a new alert or a fixed alert. We get "🔥" and "✅" instead of the icon, we have seen this working once but can't get it the work anymore. Do you have a solution how we can fix this? WMI Polling shows only 3 services

First time posting and hopes that someone can assist. Been using Subscription version of Observium for over 10 years collecting data on over 150 server farm using it daily and have been asked to now add monitoring of Windows Services. I started to do this via Probes and SNMP checks but due to the shear volume of services and servers involved this would be a tedious process. I would like to use WMI to monitor Windows Services as it appears to poll faster. Unfortunately I ran into an issue where it only displays 3 services at a time. Windows Server has over 200 services by default, I don’t plan on monitoring all of them but at least a couple dozen. Using WMI would be a much easier way to setup alerts if I could get the full listing to appear, which is where I am needing help. Here is my setup to reproduce the issue (generalized information used for security) Follow the WMI setup in the help documentation for my UB 22.04 server Global Settings > Polling > WMI (turn on) Server discovered via SNMP Open Properties of Server and edit WMI information (per server polling only no global settings) WMI Hostname = nacn_ip_TCP:hostname.domain.local[sign] WMI Domain= domain WMI Username = username WMI Password = password After a couple of minutes, I get the results of only showing 3 services not a full list. AllJoyn Router Service Remote Desktop Service Themes I have tried this on multiple servers and the same 3 services appear each time. I began to look into the code and run the wmic query on the web server itself using the following query wmic -U “domain\username%password” //ncacn_ip_TCP:hostname.domain.local[sign] “select DisplayName, Name, State, Status from Win32_Service” It gave me the full listing results and from what I can see this is where the issue lies. CLASS: Win32_Service DisplayName|Name|State|Status AllJoyn Router Service|AJRouter|Stopped|OK Application Layer Gateway Service|ALG|Stopped|OK Application Identity|AppIDSvc|Stopped|OK … Telephony|tapisrv|Stopped|OK CLASS: Win32_TerminalService DisplayName|Name|State|Status Remote Desktop Services|TermService|Running|OK CLASS: Win32_Service DisplayName|Name|State|Status Themes|Themes|Running|OK Storage Tiers Management|TieringEngineService|Stopped|OK … The first item of the WMI services is the AllJoyn Router Service, then about halfway down the listing it produces a different CLASS:Win32_TerminalService and the headers. Then it has Remote Desktop Services and starts again with CLASS:Win32_Service and headers again, and the third entry to be displayed Themes. Looking through the code I think the issue resides in the /opt/observium/includes/wmi.inc.php code and the function wmi_parse. This is the function that is used (from what I can back trace) for performing the parsing of the WMI call and populating the database with the WMI entries. But when running the mysql query for the services listing it only shows these 3 listed and not all the services that the manual query performed on the server displays. I would like to ask if someone can look into the WMI process and check the coding to allow the WMIC query to populate ALL the service results in the web site. As a separate test I also went into the Global Settings > Discovery > WMI AutoDiscoveryOptions and added in several services manually (list of 10) not including the Remote Desktop Services and the results I get on the Windows Services tab show the Remote Desktop Services. So the 2nd CLASS that appears for this service appears to be causing the issue. Any help is appreacited.

Hi, I’ve been trying to find more detailed info about Observium Enterprise Support, does anyone here has such an agreement and can share the details? All I can find on the web page says: “Included Enterprise-grade email & live support: Yes, 10 hours” So I take it that means that up to 10 hours of live support is included, what will be the cost per hour for support after those 10 hours? I cannot find any definition of what live support is, I would guess that it means some sort of online meeting with screen sharing but it would good to have it in writing so we know what to expect. EqualLogics Volume Monitoring

Good Afternoon, I have been setting up Observium, which I am relatively new to, and am not sure how to monitor the volumes of the EqualLogic Storage Array, Observium has detected it and provided sensors for the Physical Disk, fan, Controllers, and so on but no volumes are picked up. According to the following link, there are MIBs for this. https://mibs.observium.org/mib/EQLVOLUME-MIB/ If I SNMPWALK the OID's then I get the expected data, would it be possible for someone to advise how I may go about getting this data to be shown in Observium itself? Hi Team, we are trying to monitor the above device. This works well. Observium can even monitor the GPON PON interfaces eg: gpon-olt1/1. The problem we are having is trying the monitor the ONU devices on site at a client. We use Raisecom ONU's. There are currently mib files available but we noticed that the mib files are empty. So it would seem that Observium cant monitor the bandwidth of the onu's behind the splitter that is connected to the pon interface. Is this something we can manually do from our side? if we have a look at the mib files in /opt/observium/mib/raisecom and vi into the mib file, it is populated. Teams webhook debugging

Dear members, After the great help with the dashboard I went of to the next part in automating, which is for us alerting through Teams. Hopefully you can help me as quickly with this as the last time. We want to use Teams Webhook function to create an alert message, which holds a couple of components. I have configured the webhook within MS Teams and setup the link with the Observium contacts. Created a alert which triggers and mentions the notification of contacts, but nothing happens within MS Teams. The problem can be with a couple of things, so I wanted to start with logging with Observium. This can probably show me if the firewall blocks, if the Webhook link was a bad URL, etc. Where can I find a debugging log of the notification actions, so I can start debugging? Last week I upgraded a server to Observium 23.10.13043 (stable) In Polling information I had a huge increase in system polling, (See attached images.) I backed out the upgrade and tried it again a few days later, when I had more time to investigate. Obtaining good thresholds for monitoring SFP light levels

We would like to alert if an SFP's received light level is too low. The light level sensor data is present and linked with a specific port so we can adjust the alert checkers based on attributes of the linked port. What we haven't figured out how to do is get appropriate thresholds for alerting for each SFP. The SFPs define warning and alarm thresholds which are readable on the devices containing the SFPs but that data doesn't make it into Observium for most of our monitored devices as far as we can tell. Similar SFPs usually have similar thresholds so grouping by SFP vendor and part number then creating a check for each set of SFPs with manually extracted and entered thresholds could be acceptable. Observium does show the SFP vendor and part number on the device overview and inventory pages along with which port contains the SFP but there doesn't seem to be a way to reference this data when creating port or sensor groups or alert checkers. There are also the automatically generated or manually set thresholds for sensors inside Observium itself. The automatically generated thresholds are often missing and we are not aware of a way to ensure they are present or reasonable. Manually set thresholds could work if there was a way to set and audit those thresholds in an automated fashion. We don't see a way to use the API to do this though (we're using the subscription edition). Are there recommendations on how to achieve this? Is this a solved problem and we're running into a bug? device_rebooted metric is now NULL instead of 1

We have an alert checker using the device_rebooted metric to monitor for reboots. The metric used to read as 1 when a reboot was detected as is documented <https://docs.observium.org/entities/#device>. After updating to the latest stable revision (r13020) from r12520 the metric now reads as NULL immediately after a reboot. Is this change in behavior intended? Corwin

repeated recovery messages

Hi I get new recovery messages for my pandacom devices (pandacom-sc) all the time. Observium does not show any alerts. For a device that has not reported any event at all since October 5, Observium shows hundreds of recoveries today alone. Any tips on how to debug this would be greatly appreciated. Andre

The router has two interfaces, both visible from the Observium poller. It has been discovered twice, and appears twice as well on the map. Hi, after several years of using Observium, it just occurred to me recently that I am not sure how to read the traffic graphs. For example, I always thought that above "0" on the horizontal axis was transmit and below was receive. But as I look closer, that cannot be. Also, the colors on the graph do not seem to line up with the legend...for example in this graph, I see 4 colors, light/dark green and light/dark purple. But the legend seems to have the same color for g0/0/0 as g0. I guess my questions are: How are transmits and receives represented on the traffic graphs? Why are the colors in the graph not lining up with the legend? General Question - Raritan PDUs

I'm curious if anyone on the listserv is using a Raritan monitored-per-port PDU? If so, would you be willing to share your experience monitoring it with Observium? We're looking at buying some monitored + switched per-port models, and I want to make sure we can graph each port individually like we can with other vendors. Got a custom OID setup and graphing for a single device, nothing is showing up in the graphs but snmpget verifies the OID is correct. I think the text OID might be incorrect. Is there a debug log for this somewhere? This is the Professional edition. Thanks

Need help on migration

Hi all, Been using Observium for many years and it's been great. But finally trying to migrate it to a new server running Ubuntu 22 (from Ubuntu 14) and it's been a struggle. I've followed these steps (https://docs.observium.org/server-migration/) but I'm not a Ubuntu / MySQL tech. I built a new Ubuntu server, installed Observium with the script and was able to login. Now, after I restore the rrd files and MySQL DB, I can't login to the web interface. I setup debug and got this below. I tried adding a new user with adduser.php and it looks like it worked, but can't login still. Thanks! error on "Applications" in device settings

How to filter only fibre network ports in an alert for link down?

I didn't find something like "ifPortType = fibre" or similar i can use. I could go with the interface speed but there could also be 1GBit fibre ports. How can i solve this? APC Smart-UPS SRT 6000 Alerting

Been working on getting this configured and my head around this alert. I've got it working to alert me of going on battery now, and if the batteries are marked as bad. This is specifically tested with an APC Smart-UPS SRT 6000, SKU: SRT6KXLT. Adam, I hear what you are saying about udp flooding...there are routers (no filters) in between but no firewalls. i don't see any indication in the logs that there are udp flooding issues...also, why only every couple of months? Why not every night? Graphs not collecting data after a route reboot

After having a Cisco ASR9001 router reboot over the weekend, some graphs are no longer displaying data and new graphs have been created. Some graphs like processors, memory, etc. are populating correctly, while others like traffic and ports are empty. This router has been in observium for years. The only thing that changed was a reboot over the weekend due to a power issue. No upgrades, changes, etc. In some cases, the "old" graph for an interface is showing nothing, but a new graph for that interface seems to have been automatically created and is now showing data. Is there any way to fix this? I could probably delete the device completely and re-add it, but I hate to loose all of the historical data from it. I can post links to screenshots to illustrate thanks

Frontpage custom mini graphs

Hi, I've been using the minigraphs [1] on the front page for quite a while and they haven't had to be changed for ages. But now I want to insert some new graphs and realise that this no longer works? Unable to send notifications.

Hi Tam, We are facing notification related issue. We have created a port up/down alert in observium. It will be sending some switches port status only. Other switches will be showing in status as an unknown. But when we are seeing switch will be showing up & Realtime traffic also showing continuous. Please help us to resolve this issue.
